Let's hope that some good news comes our way soon! Funny how the gov't is saying how they are making the process more efficient and faster, but the processing time in Bogota went back up to 17 months from 16 again!

I imagine this time of year there is a big influx of temporary resident visa applications since dec and jan are the holiday months for Colombian schools...lots of people wanting to visit family in Canada

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know today we got an e mail requesting the police check. I'm not sure why they won't let you get it as soon as you get your file number? doesn't really make sense to me why you have to wait until they tell you to do it!!! I didn't get stickers or anything it was just an e mail letting me know where to deposit the money and what to do with the receipt and a check list to send with the receipt. I would recommend anyone that still waiting for that letter to come to just do it, unless anyone here knows a reason why they should wait to get the letter from the embassy because it says it will take 6 to 8 weeks for the police check to get there. If anyone wants to know more details about the letter I got just send me a private message and I will let you know!
In the same note I need some advice, we did our medicals early january this year, so according to the letter we just got. It will take at least another 6 to 8 weeks before the police check gets there and that will take us past the year that the medicals are good for. so my question is, do I have to wait for the embassy to tell me to do our medicals again or should I go ahead and do them before the embassy requests them?.

I would probably wait on re-doing the medical. Medicals can now be extended at the discretion of the visa officer if it is the only thing remaining or outstanding to finalize the application. Once they receive your police checks, they may ask you to re-do the medical if they feel its going to take longer than 3 months to finish processing, or just extend it.

My wife's medicals have expired, but we haven't had a request yet to redo them. We are sitting tight until told otherwise.

After about 4 1/2 weeks from getting the medical done, it showed up on our eCas "medicals received", so I would think you would see something soon. You can also order your GCMS notes at any time in the process

Here is the form you need, and the instructions. If you are not living in Canada, you need to have someone there order the notes for you. The applicant needs to fill out the authorization-to-release-information form so that someone in Canada, for example the spouse, or friend, or parents-in-law, can order the notes for you. There is also a $5 fee that you can pay online. Note the brown box area on the top right side...those are the forms you will need to use...but not the bottom one, unless you are using a 3rd party service or lawyer to do in on your behalf.

GCMS notes take 30 calender days...if you go past Dec 1, then email them back and ask why you haven't received them yet...did you select electronic files or physical files on the form? Electronic files are 30 days...physical files much longer. Also, did you get the generic email response when you filed saying they received the email? And, did you pay the fee online?

sooo finally it says on ecas (as unreliable as it is, so yes i'm taking this with a grain of salt!) that our file is IN PROCESS and not just application received! yay! c'mon Bogota, you can do it!!

I emailed the embassy to notify them that our ECAS status appeared to have not been updated since January. The passport was requested in July (so I am presuming they are processing the case). Amazingly when I checked today, ECAS had indeed been updated:

"We started processing xxx application on November 20, 2012."

This leads me to believe that the status shown in ECAS is NOT the date they started processing the case, but is in fact the date they updated ECAS.

We should be receiving our CAIPS notes next week. I'll be very interested to see what they say.

we're on the exact same time frame, and ours says it started processing on nov. 20th too! fingers crossed for both of us!
