Thank you, everyone, for your expert opinions. And @dpenabill, thank you so much for your deep insights and for helping us navigate this situation.

I just wanted to share an update. My friend received the following response from the IRCC officer:

“This is a notification that your permanent resident (PR) card has been prepared and is available for pickup at the IRCC office indicated below for 180 days from the date of this notice.”

The officer has asked her to come in person to collect the card and has provided an appointment date and time. Fingers crossed—hopefully everything goes smoothly for her on the pickup date at the office.
Hello @Aatika_m , I'm in the same situation. I have been asked to come in person to pick up my card. I am outside canada (work outside canada on temp work visa), and traveling back to Canada to attend the in-person interview. My RO in the last 5 years is 1100 days. Curious to know how did the interview go for your friend? Was she able to get the card with 5 year validity? Thank you!

As long as you remain in compliance when you pick up the card, we’re in compliance with your RO when you applied and you applied to renew while in Canada there should be no issue.

Hi All,
My wife is in a similar situation. She has been living with me (Canadian citizen) for over 3 years and its time to renew. We will travel using her PR card, but the card expires on 10th April but intend to travel immediately back due to work. If we are called to collect the card after her card expires, can she us her US green card to enter Canada and go and collect the card in Canada? Or she need to apply for PRTD?

Did she apply to renew her PR card last time she was in Canada? If using a land border she can cross without a valid PR card. You have to have an appointment because collection typically involves an interview. The interview can quite short it really depends on the details of the application. Is this her first time applying for a new PR card? Had you established a lives in Canada before she became a PR and after she got her PR status? How soon did both of you move to the US after she received her PR status?
