Hello

I applied for my father PR Card Renewal in DEC 2025 . Got an email from IRCC to provide a legal name change document along with provincial ID because the name of COPR and Application doesnt match.

NOTE : If you passport have blank in Surname / Family name , the Canadian Authorities put your First Name in the Surname (Family name) and leave the First Name blank as you can not have Surname blank in western countries. Thats what happens in my Father COPR where Family Name "JOHN DOE and Given name - "Blank"

Long Story Short - My dad has a previous Indian Passport with First Name as John Doe and Surname / Family Name "blank" (This is with most Indian Passports). So when this passport got expired in 2024 he went to India and got it renewed. They issues him new passport with First Name as John and Surname as Doe , which is actually correct.

Now I filled in the application as per current passport and also attach a letter of explanation explaining the change in both passports as the legal name has not been changed and its merely a correction of fields.

They are asking either to provide legal name change document within 30 days or they have also written in the end that if the current PR card is expired which is in March 2026 they will issue the renewal card with old format of name ie ( , John Doe) rather than new passport correction as (Doe, John). I am thinking this might give him issues as he is currently in India and might be the airline or immigration authority trouble him with mismatch of name field on passport and pr card.

We actually want it to be inline with the current valid indian passport.

BELOW IS THE EMAIL FROM IRCC
