I tried to lure them into this forum, but to no avail. Anyway, I'll try to update you guys on their situation. One of my friends got an NER last week and they have told him that he didn't have one year of continuous work experience. He has been TAing for two and a half year now but he has had one semester break in between (he got the graduate fellowship which is supposed to be a good thing, ironically). I know that he had some other work experience before coming to Canada, but none were continuous.
hi shomo, i'm curious to know whether your friend had claimed RA experience at all??..because i think if we claim RA/TA together it won't be a big deal because i'm pretty sure most of us have breaks in our TA duties..for example i don't TA fall terms, but i TA the other two...but RA is continuous..

HR person shall be happy because people are usually lazy. Just let your direct supervisior confirm your duties/responsibilitis. The HR person should confirm your salary/work hours/working period etc.

Thank you, smallkick!

One more question here: do you have one reference letter that is confirmed by both direct supervisor and HR? (like sending an email to HR and cc to direct supervisor)
or, do you have two separate letters?

No, just one letter from direct supervisor. I think only your direct supervisor knows your main duties/responsiblities, and you may request your supervisor to verify your salary/work duration etc. with the help of HR person. And then let your supervisor sign it.

I presented my TA/RA experience in the following format:

September 2009 – December 2009 Employed as TA for 130 hours.
January 2010 – April 2010 Employed as TA for 130 hours.
May 2010 – August 2010 Employed as a RA for 650 hours.
September 2010 – December 2010 Employed as TA for 130 hours.
January 2011 – April 2011 Employed as TA for 130 hours.
May 2011 – August 2011 Employed as TA for 65 hours.
May 2011 Employed as a RA for 80 hours.
August 2011 Employed as a RA for 30 hours.

And it still worked. So my understanding is that as long as your employment is continuous, TA or RA does not have to be continuous. Maybe it only applies to my case. wish it be helpful to someone.

Hello everyone,

I am new here. I just filed my FSW-PhD application yesterday. Could someone, please, help me with two questions:
1)How do I create my timeline in this forum? I could not find any place on my profile to do so. and, more importantly,
2)Is there a way to extend our stay in Canada while waiting for the immigration visa? I am here in Canada on a student visa which is expiring this september. Under what pretext can I request extention of status? And if I do leave, will they have to move my application package from the CIC Buffelo office to the one that serves my country?

Good luck to everyone and thanks for your help in advance...

So, your supervisor gave a letter in this format, rite? or did u add these details in the covering letter?

In my case, as per my calculation, I have 78 points, but still they asked me more details regarding the current experience letter. So, do we need to include our points calculation?

You can get a post-grad work permit (for up to three years).

How about your student permit? You can stay here till the date on ur permit. Permit and visa are different. Visa is for entry only, and will be stamped till the passport expiry in most cases. So if u have permit, u can stay here, but if u need to exit for some personal reason like visiting ur home country, then u couldnot reenter without a visa. For that purpose, u can apply for visa. If u have a valid permit, they will issue visa for u.

It was in supervisor's letter and my covering letter as well.

I didn't include my point calculation.

Is there any minimum wage requirement for research assistant position? If I have a research grant of $1000 per month, how many hours can I claim with that amount?

Did u specify the rate per hour and the salary with this information? I am totally confused. Research grant is less when we compare the number of hours. In my case, I have $1000 per month, so i was wondering about the rate per hour....

Hi All,

Thanks for keeping this forum active with regards to FSW (PhD stream).
As for me, I would have been able to send sooner if it was not for my certificate of good conduct.
Anyhow, I've send my application and they (at Sydney received it on the 27th March)
Crossing my fingers and hope all is well.
Any ideas if application through this stream would have preferential treatment with it goes to Buffalo side?

Hi anjuku,
As far as I know, he didn't have any RA experience. It was all TAs.

Probably not. Please post all your information so I can update the spreadsheet.

smallkick, congratulations :D !!! PER in 14 days is just incredibly fast.

Anyway, I've heard from other threads that people that were getting PER's mid-to-late February have started receiving AOR's last week from New Delhi Visa Office. Buffalo is indeed slow...
