Why nobody considering Zurich route? RTPCR facility is available in Transit. And routes are also shorter from it.
I actually am planning it now. Some people actually reached Canada via that route on 3rd Aug and some are on way. Transit of 24+ hour is required to get the test results. People are not aware of it much because of less popularity and less information available.

Please, may you guys shed more light on this? @Sinper

Mumbai - Heathrow - 8 hours break - Heathrow to Mexico... Is this safe?
Looks good as long as the 8hr break isn't overnight (basically, fly out of Heathrow before midnight - making us feel like Cinderella).

Also I think someone mentioned this earlier - for travellers to Canada with Canadian visa/PR who cross border control, the UK govt website says that you "might be" eligible for 'transit without visa' <https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/y/india/transit/somewhere_else/yes>. But best not to risk it I feel because this leaves things to the immigration officer's discretion till the last minute.

Also, fair warning: no expert here :p so needless to say, please confirm with the airline company. But I do know someone who will be transiting through Heathrow on the 11th, so can update then.

There is a slight ambiguity in your question.

You have to ask how to transfer on *two different PNRs.*

Emirates may be able to co-ordinate with Air Canada to transfer your luggage.
Please check with emirates.

But where will you get the onward boarding pass?

You MAY need a visa to collect your baggage and check it into the onward flight by yourself. Emirates can tell you that.
That is going to take way more than 3 hours.
Yes there is a 6 hrs stopover.

Thank you for your reply! I was reading the following at <https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/faqs/EN/topics/civil-protection/coronavirus/coronavirus-faqs.html#doc13797140bodyText3> under the Qn: 'When is transit through Germany permitted?'

"Transit through Germany to travel to a country outside of the EU
Citizens of countries outside of the EU may enter Germany to travel to a country outside of the EU if the following conditions are met:

  1. the traveller remains in Germany (as country of transit) only as long as absolutely necessary to travel directly to the country of destination or another transit country;
  2. the traveller is permitted to enter the country of destination or another transit country, if applicable.
The traveller must provide evidence on entry that the conditions (1) and (2) listed above have been met. Airline or other travel tickets, etc. may be presented to meet condition (1). To meet condition (2), travellers can present authorisation of entry to the country of destination (e.g. a visa) or an identity document or residence authorisation for the country of destination, for example."

Does the above not mean that Indian students (with a Schengen visa) can enter Germany for the purpose of traveling onwards to Canada - staying there only for the necessary period of max 24 hrs in order to take an RT-PCR test?

I am just curious to know if anyone has explored this route (or any other through the Schengen region) and has tried (successfully or not) for a Schengen visa.
I am not sure.

Germany (as country of transit) => Can you cross passport control? I think it is not possible without a visa. An RT PCR is possible only if you can cross the passport control.

1. This is safe as long as you are on the same PNR for both flights.
2. If you are on different PNRs you should co-ordinate with your airlines to transfer you check-in luggage.
3. If your airlines cannot transfer the luggage, you need a transit visa.

There are two types , a direct airside transit visa ( you can’t leave airside ) and a visitor in transit visa ( specifically for if you need to check-in luggage et cetera ) - in this case the latter will be needed

I know international students, starting this fall, are really tensed because of the current ban scenario and the hike in the expenses and feeling a little awkward to ask about Jan 2022 students. I am one among them and is unable to figure out what to do with my ticket booking as even if I book indirect flight route by the end of September, I can't be sure that the 3rd country won't change its policies and rules for India in near future. If someone's out there planning to start their classes from Jan 2022, I would appreciate if we could connect to discuss a little about it.

if you planning to study in Jan 2022 Intake.. i guess you shouldn't book tickets now because right now Canada won't allow you to enter. They put up a rule where you can't land in canada before 21 days of when your classes about start.

1. If you want to reach early, signup for a preparatory or language course.
2. Book a ticket with a 24-hour stop over location. Rules can change anytime.
3. Any tickets you book should be FULLY refundable.
4. Airlines take 21-45 days to refund ANY ticket.
5. Book 4 - 8 weeks before intended date of travel.

Hey thanks for your response. I think the thing i wanted to ask is not conveyed clearly so this misunderstanding happened. Yes i m aware that 4- 5 weeks prior to your start date is considered as an appropriate time to reach Canada as per IRCC. What I wanted to ask is when to book tickets for December because the closer we get to our boarding date the higher are the prices. So I wanted to book tickets for December in September only. But considering the dynamics of the current immigration policies...i think i have to wait till late October or November to book my tickets for December.

You should look into airlines policy on buying tickets. I think qatar has a policy that if you buy a ticket before 31 August 2021, it will be refunded fully if you cancel it. And you can make changes to it without fees and only pay change in price of ticket

Thank you. Yes, now I have got some clarity that no matter what happens I have no option but to wait till atleast mid October before i can book my tickets for December. Also the refund time, i wasn't aware of that so thanks again for sharing that info with me.
