Korean Police Certificate -- ILLEGAL document

Hi everyone,

Today I got my landing letter - PR approved a week ago.

I submitted the free Criminal Record Check that I got from my local Korean Consulate (in Vancouver).

I also submitted emails from the Korean Police Agency, the Korean Foreign Office, the Korean consulate in Toronto - all stating that the document requested was no longer being issued by the Korean Police Agency. I also submitted emails forwarded to me from other people on this forum and elsewhere who had been officially informed that the document was no longer available. Thank you to all those who helped me in this way.

I am happy to forward any of the emails I received from official sources. It may make a difference that I am NOT KOREAN and do not live in Korea. Still, if I can help anyone through this bit of dodgy legislation, I will.

I hope you are doing well in Canada. I am having the same issue when trying to get the right Korean Police Certificate that CIC requires. It would be great if you could forward those emails to quang.ddt@outlook.com so that I can attach them in my LOE as evidence to prove that it's illegal and imposible for non Korean to obtain it nowaday.

about asking police certificate which is illegal and criminal to get from South Korea.

You dont even have to provide ur personal info
Everyone pls file a complaint. they did this USA and they changed their law

Thank you for your information provided above!! I called cic saying my result is pending due to that certificate with lapsed record. I provided an explanation letter along with the emails from consulate in toronto stating it is illegal.

hopefully i can get my pr smoothly...!

Im so sorry! But you can definitely appeal?? I am still waiting for my final decision as im experiencing the same situation...

Hi everyone.
We are in the process of gathering documents. I (sponsor) have lived in Korea for two years and my partner is Korean. I’m seeing all this information about the background checks.

Is the best plan of action to omit any kind of background check from Korea and attach the LOE explaining the illegality? And is this problem only for non-Koreans or are Korean citizens unable to obtain it as well?

Hi. My application was just cancelled today because of this issue! I really had no clue Korea had two types of Police Certificate! What did you do? Can I appeal and ask to reopen my case since getting this document looks like hard, if not impossible?

Im sorry to hear that! When is your aor? I have included my explanation letter in my original submission and haven’t heard back from cic yet. I was told my background check is under process..

i think like other people try to explain the situation and then get together some evidences from the local government and raise a webform and hope for the best!

My AOR was May 14th 2020. My medicals were passed but got this problem just today. May I ask what information did you put in your explanation letter? When was your AOR?

I just sent and email to the embassy here hoping to get any answers.
