The main issue was that I sent the money from my father's account which is against the policies of Scotiabank. The other issue was that the bank sent the money as an education fee. If you send money to any country for educational purposes, you have to pay 5% tax. If you send it as a personal remittance, the tax doesn't applies.

Hello Asad,

I went to Meezan, Lahore for GIC. As RO was not aware of the process she said she will get information and update me. Today, I've received this email

"Dear Concern

Yes its possible on the condition to provide student status of beneficiary along with evidence on website of university to show about the living expenses of student and 5% tax is must be deducted..

Thanks/Regards "

This 5% tax is applicable on GIC? isn't it a personal expense?

Please let me know.

Thanks

They are again involving university stuff and dealing you as a student.
You have to tell them to transfer your money to your own account in Canada. Just that. You are a filer and you are willing to make a foreign transfer. This worked for me and my friend. But I have seen a couple of students who paid this tax. Try another bank. I hope it should work. I have myself paid this tax in my first transfer but my friend got his GIC in first attempt without paying any tax.

any update regarding visa processing????????
As of 10th April, govt of Canada announced that they are going to ban the processing of non essential visas i.e visitor, tourist and non essential work permits. They are only going to process essential work permits i.e related to food supply chain or medical field. They gave this statement that embassy is getting ready for processing of study permits anticipating the fall intake.
So I guess the processing has started as someone on other thread got his approval.
