21 months now... great news. Does anyone know if it's at least possible to switch from closed WP to Open WP while in QC and waiting for PR? I heard some people managed to get it. Not sure though since QSW category seem to have 0 advantages.

Hi there
My family and I received or CSQ. I applied for federal by mail and received two emails and two BIL (Biometric Instruction Letter) notes that we need to do biometrics. On the other hand, my family and I have applied for and have got visitor visa and we have done biometrics for that application more than 6 months ago. When I linked my application to my online new account as the federal email requested. There is our last biometrics information this new account.
Do we have to do biometrics again?

This is the post that encouraged me to apply myself: CSQ to Obtain an Open Work Permit in Quebec Post #7

As suggested, I used the tool: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/come-canada-tool.html to guide me to the application. The main form I filled was the IMM5710e: Application to change conditions, extend my stay, or remain in Canada as a worker.

In this form I selected: "Apply for a work permit for the first time or with as new employer";
Type of work permit: "Open work Permit"; and
Name of employer: "Empty"

to name a few important fields

Aside from required forms, the document I provided were:

1) AOR
2) Proof of medicals done in last 1 year
3) Valid CSQ
4) Passport Photo
5) Passport pages
6) Valid current Work permit
7) Letter of explanation, which included cover letter, as well as 1) and 6) as PDF
8) Payment 155 + 100 CAD

I applied 4 months before my WP expires, and it took 3 month to get it. There is a small remark on the Work Permit that says "APR pending". APR means Application for Permanent Residence, I assume.

I'm an inland applicant, PEQ stream.

Thanks for your reply. The present status is given below for your valuable advice. In fact how long need to wait?:

Review of eligibility: We are reviewing your eligibility whether you meet the eligibility requirement.
Medical: Passed
Interview: not required, if changes we will inform
Biometrics: not required, if changes we will inform
Background check: We are processing your background check. We will send you message, if we need more information
Final decision: Your application is in process. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

Your application is taking us longer than usual to process. About 20% of our application are more complex to process. they take us longer due to things like how easily we can verify information.

Unfortunately , it is between 15 months to 25 months you might see similar timelines to yours through the posts. Only these might give you an estimate, you security/background check is still ongoing and these take a ridiculous amount of time. Best of luck in any case mate, we’ll get through.

Yes

When you got your OWP, did you have to go to the border to activate it or how does it work?

No, it is valid the moment it is issued, like any other work permit. Mine is valid for 12 months from the day it was issued.

Hello Everyone

I've been waiting for my PR for almost 31 months now!! could someone please let me know if they're in the same situation? I've tried every possible solution to know why my application is taking this long but i always get the generic response from CIC with no clear explanation!! Even the MP of my area have been in contact with them for over a year now and they still give her no clear answer... And my GCMS notes give no clue about anything wrong with my application. In March 2019, CIC told me that I passed all the steps of the process even the background check and they asked me to do a second medical exam and i passed that too, and now 3 months later am still waiting for a final decision which is making me very frustrated because my post-graduation work permit expired by the end of May and I applied to renew it 10 days before it expired just to be able to stay in Canada while waiting for DM. So if someone is in a similar situation with a very very long waiting time please let me know so i don't keep having the feeling that something is wrong with my application because i know a lot of people who applied way after me getting their DMs a long time ago!

Jan 25, 2018: Request Letter to fill a time gap in my Schedule A form, and for a new police certificate for my wife from Lebanon after she came to Canada on a Work permit
Feb 12, 2018: Request Letter for my CV and to fill a supplementary sheet
Feb 13, 2018: Had my application status changed to "Your Action is Required" when i didn't receive any request for additional documents, i called CIC and the agent told me that am not required to do any action at the moment and they will send me a request letter when they need me to do something
Feb 13, 2018: Invitation to Pre-Arrival Services
Feb 25, 2019: Sent a Request for GCMS Notes, and found out that my status was changed to "Your Action is Required" the year before because i had some supporting documents (Schedule A, CV, Police Certificate) that i needed to be updated before Feb 15, 2018 by going to "View submitted application or upload documents" that is written above application status and applicant information sections!! so i updated them even though it says somewhere that they're not mandatory and only optional. Afterwards, my application status changed back to "submitted"
Mar 01, 2019: CIC told me that i passed the backgroung check and then I received a second request for Medical Exam. I did the Exam on Mar 5 and my application status indicated that i passed it on Mar 16

3 months have passed and there's nothing yet

Medicals sometimes trigger DM after 4 months. Raise another web form after 16 July if not but I think it should be fine. Best of luck
