My timeline is at the very end of this post.

My partner and I arrived in the office 10 minutes before our interview time. We checked in with the receptionist, were greeted with “Congratulations” and given a number in queue :)

There were about 20 windows and were all open. The room was packed with people waiting. Luckily there was a TV with live World Cup lol. We waited about 30 minutes until our number was called.

We were met with a lovely lady. She requested our interview invitation letter and passport. We spent quite sometime confirming our first day of entry and last day of entry to Canada. Apparently the officers who processed our application entered wrong dates for both of us :) That may explain the transfer to Vancouver office and the double ghost updates… but the lady whom we met with was patient and corrected them for us. This process took longer than normal because the CBSA officer did not stamp my passport at my latest entry back to Canada and the stamp of my initial entry was on an old passport that I did not bring. She was able to verify these information on her side so in the end everything was sorted out.

She further asked how we met each other and other casual questions re cooking etc. I am seriously not sure whether this was for verifying our relationship or out of her pure curiosity. After all, she was very conversational throughout our interview who really wanted to get to know us better. She even told some of her personal stories :)

Then we were asked some statutory questions: are there any dependents of ours that were not listed on the application; did either of us commit any crime or served any sentences in and outside of Canada.

She then went to the back room for about 5 minutes and came back with the printed CoPR. She glued our picture to her CoPR copy, asked us to initial a couple statements, and finally we all signed on the CoPR. At this time, she officially congratulated us for being a Permanent Resident of Canada as of today, and advised us that: PR card will arrive in our mailbox within 8-10 weeks; we have residency obligations to fulfill as PR; we need to update our SIN number (usually you could update at the Service Canada in the same building, but since our interview was on a Saturday, Service Canada was closed); we should apply provincial health care coverage on Monday and advised me to call a number to let the province know that I am PR now so they can update my existing coverage.

I asked her whether they always do landing interviews on Saturdays. She told me that this office does landing interviews Mon-Sat with all windows open (full capacity) and still have backlogs… So the IRCC agents are really trying their best to process as many applications as possible. Please be patient, understanding, and appreciative. I trust everyone will get their PR in due time.

For those who are waiting for your ITA, PPR, CoPR, wish you a speedy processing. For those who already received approvals, wish you a bright and happy life in Canada!

Cheers,

Hello limin_w!

Congratulations on becoming a PR! :D

I have received my landing interview email today and no PPR! I am beyond happy the wait is over! My appointment will be at the same Etobicoke location as you this coming Monday. Basically the same process as you! I am so thankful I found your thread and thank you for sharing your experience.

I am just wondering if everything goes well on Monday, will they stamp my passport at the same time? Or do I need to mail it to Ottawa? I had planned to go on a trip next Friday for about a month, and would need my passport to travel.

I would really appreciate your thoughts!

Thank you!!

Congrats!!

If all goes well, they will issue you a CoPR and do the formal landing (signing CoPR paper) at the same time. The one-entry counterfoil (stamped visa) is really for Outland applicants to travel to Canada and do the landing. Since our landing is already in Canada, they will NOT stamp your passport at all. They will only cancel and cross out all your existing Canadian visas on your passport.

Note that once you complete landing, you can NOT go out of Canada until you receive your pr card since CoPR is not valid for travel. Now if your travel plan is within Canada, you’d be fine. Otherwise let me know and I can give u some further explanation.

Happy landing!

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I just saw that you replied to my post.

My trip is NOT within Canada :( Would you please give me more information on what documents I need in order to travel on Friday? I am going back home for my sister's wedding. I am really stressing out right now.

If you do not mind me asking, how do you know so much about all these procedures? Thank you again for your help!

If you are going to any other country,u should have a valid PR card or visa .you have 2 options.
There is a temporary PR . just go through this http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=064&top=10 and option 2 is you have to enter through a private vehicle from us cabada border. No train or no bus.

Sorry I didn’t see your post in time. I assume you are already back home for the wedding. In that case, apply a PR travel document to the Canadian consulate/embassy in or closest to your home country. Refer to this page: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/new-immigrants/pr-travel-document.html

My knowledge came all through IRCC website and this forum.

Congrats!!! I received a landing interview email a couple days ago. My AOR was July 9. They have asked me to bring passport photos, my passport photos and proof that I paid the $490. A couple of questions:

Is this normal?
What does no PPR mean?
Is this a formality?

This is exactly what was asked for mine. So congrats!

PPR is passport request, which refers to the other route to get CoPR: IRCC requests your passport, you send it, they put an one-time visa to your passport and you take it to the border and do the landing instead of having the landing interview in Canada.

Unless you have serious red flags, or you lied in your application, this is a formality and you become a PR on the interview.

I guess this Thanksgiving becomes a special one for you! Congrats!

Hi Raghu436,

Can you explain a bit more about Option 2 you mentioned, as I am planning to leaving Canada after first landing. Also, is it possible for PR cards to be couriered to me in another country?

Thanks & Regards

Hi,
I have a query.
In our case, only the dependent has received the PPR request as the dependent is in another country while the primary applicant is in Canada on a work permit and hasn't received any PPR request.
I understand from other forums that this usually happens for inland and CEC applicants and the PA will receive a landing interview shortly.
The issue is, the PA is shortly in India for a visit and we haven't notified IRCC as it only a short trip. If he receives an email for interview is there an option to reschedule the interview till he lands back in Canada or is it fixed?
