Hi All,

My wife and I arrived in India on January 1, 2026, due to unavoidable circumstances. Approximately four hours after landing, we received our PORTAL 1 request. Additionally, we were on maintained status in Canada, which should have expired once we left the country.

Could someone please advise on how we should proceed in this situation?

Is it recommended that we return to Canada as visitors and refrain from working until we receive our eCOPR, or is there an option to complete this process while remaining in India?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Because you were outside Canada when Portal 1 was issued, IRCC cannot finalize your eCOPR through the PR portal, and your maintained status (including work authorization) ended when you left Canada. You must either inform IRCC and complete PR processing from India, or return to Canada as a visitor without working and ask IRCC to resume the portal once you are physically back.

Right. Also, is there any risk if you ask IRCC to change process from inland to outland at this stage and do you have any idea of how much time this entire process will take?
