In my personal experience with calling and talking to the agents they have been nice and friendly, but clearly clueless, I agree, not qualified idiots. I feel if you dont stick to a standard Q&A from a script they dont know how to answer. I had to tell them things that were happening with my account (ie: dates, emails)...one could not understand at all what I was talking about as far as DM showing on my ecas. And the info she finally did give me didnt match up as far as dates that they sent me emails, consistently 2 days later than I received them. I still cant comprehend that since they are the ones that sent me the emails.
Still am waiting for my landing appt. June 14th was DM, that is now 10+ weeks waiting according to ecas. The agent told me it would be 6 weeks at the most from the date of June 16th (the date she told me). Then I get the official DM letter on July 26th, stating St Johns will contact me for the appointment, another 4+ weeks have come and gone. Getting me nowhere.
I know all of you say to stay calm, just have patience, but my patience is gone now. I am so frustrated by the lack of knowledge from the agents you talk to. Frustrated with the waiting game. There is nothing special about my case, no extras were having to be done, no additional anything was requested, simple application, straight forward, and here we sit with everything on hold. And yes, I know, when applying it was said 26months, however, when you see others applying months after we did and then having already landed, it just toasts my bread.
Sorry for the rant, having one of those days. Getting so tired of this.
As I stated, this was my experience and mine only, not speaking about others good or bad, dont mean to cause flareup, arguments or whatever, just speaking out of frustration.
Going to see the MP this coming week.
I hope you get it sorted out soon, good luck!

Thank you but I don't know what's worse. waiting for SA/AIP and DM or getting all three and waiting forever just for the interview. I'm sure you'd hear good news after speaking with your MP
thank you, I sure hope so too :)

@sylvain1 @profiler Thanks alot for your answers.

So, with your understanding, she could be in canada as a visitor and yet we can apply to our home country visa office for outland application.

As for traveling, I would assume that if you dont have a OWP, and travel back and forth on the visitor visa, you are basically not able to justify the boarder agent that you intend to leave canada during this visit, as he will be able to see that a PR application is in process which means that you have all the intention of staying in canada permanently. Correct?
But if you have a OWP and then travel will the PR application is in process, then you have a legitimate reason of looking for a job or returning to your job, and dont not have to prove that you will be leaving canada.

Having said that, i was looking at the 2017 inland application time lines and there are not many AIPs. Are there any timelines as to how long from the date we apply, can we get SA/AIP?
Regarding your question about entering as a visitor while you have an ongoing PR application, you can read about dual intent:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/dual.asp
As long as she can show strong ties in her country of origin, there should be no problems to enter Canada.

Regarding SA/AIP, it comes quite at the end of the process, close to 12 months after you apply. Some people (like my wife and I) go from no news to SA/AIP few minutes apart, then DM within 24 hours.

Would new PR's require visa to travel to usa?
Yes, because you will still travel with the passport from your country of origin. Only after you get the Canadian citizenship and then a Canadian passport you will be able to travel to USA without a visa.

thank you.Hopefully the MP can help.
From what you wrote, my guess is that they messed up the transfer to your local office. Your local office is probably still within its timeframe (in reference to the DM letter), but that would be Mississauga that did not transfer it right away. I think you have good arguments to ask your MP to help you getting a landing appointment. In any cases, it's coming, I'm sure of that. Stay positive!

Hello,

I just got a letter from cic stating:

This refers to the Application for Permanent Residence you made under the Spouse or
Common-Law Partner in Canada Class.

It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. Please note that a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you and, if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they are not applying to join you in Canada at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident until you and all your family members have met these requirements.

IMPORTANT: Passports for yourself and your family members must be valid for the duration of your stay in Canada.

Please let me know what this letter means. We do not have any children. My spouse's (Applicant) parents live back home. Do we have to submit their medical/backround checks? I checked ecas and the status says "Decision Made". We have not received SA or AIP yet. I am really confused what we need to submit. We have not paid our Landing Fees yet, however, I will paying for it this week. Thank you for your help!

It looks like you have received the AIP. If you see Decision Made on both sides on ECAS then you`re waiting for your local immig. office to invite you for the landing. You do not need neither medical nor background check for the parents. Decision Made on both sides means usually you`re done. Don`t worry about SA or DM letter. I landed this week and never received AIP or DM letter, just my sponsor received SA. You are at the end of the road IMHO.

Hi,
I am happy to find this place with so many people in the same situation, although it seems ours is taking forever. Our application is inland February 2016. Our file was sent to Etibocoke (maybe I am spelling that wrong) last May where the final decision has to be made. Any idea of how long it takes to be called for the interview? Is it possible that mine is taking so long because I have children?
Any words of encouragement are welcome. Love reading all the comments.
Good luck to all!

Congratulations, this is your AIP. On ECAS, you see decision made, but on which side? Sponsor only or both on th sponsor and the principal applicant? If on both side, you are done! If on both side, you are waiting for the landing appointment.

The letter is generic, so you don't have to submit medical and/or police certificate for people that are not on the application (no need for the parents of your spouse).

There is something wrong, Etobicoke is relatively slow for interview appointment, still you should get the appointment within 5-8 weeks after your DM letter (the one stating that your file was transferred to Etobicoke). Try contacting CIC tomorrow, if you don't succeed to talk to an agent (very likely), have the sponsor contact the local MP and explain that you are waiting for a landing appointment for more than 3 months.

No much less, Quebec-Montreal is a bit less than 3 hours, so totally about 8 hours for Quebec-Toronto.
I wonder why I was so sure? It's about 5 hrs to Ottawa for us. Same for Cornwall ON (401 has number signs everywhere identifying the distance from Detroit, MI; we are at exit 282 (so 282km from Detroit); Cornwall is like 750).

From Cornwall to MTL is like 30-40min so that's 6 hrs for us from here... So, 5 to Toronto. Adding your 3 to QC, yeah I guess 8?

The drive through Quebec is usually a blur for me. All I know for sure is, Edmundson is 12 hrs ;).

Hello Everyone,
Aug 24, 2016 file received.
I see DM on both sides today but no email yet, I think we are very close now.
I would like to thank each and everyone of you for the help and support provided on this forum, special thanks to "master" profiler
Congrats! This is positive news! The mail systems were supposed to be upgraded by Bell Canada -- who failed to deliver on a contract. So, it's no surprise that folks see delays in messaging.

The landing appointment emails are sent from CIC offices directly. So you won't .issue that for sure! :)

Not quite. From what I read above, I get the impression that you may believe the OWP is also available, if you apply Outland. It isn't the case. The OWP and Outland processing are mutually exclusive -- you can only have one or the other.

Outland has an additional Burdon of proof; you have to provide proof that you communicate. That also has to be translated and summarized by a certified translator (emails and chat logs). You also have to provide proof of financial support.

But with Outland, indeed your partner can travel. When trying to cross into Canada, they will definately assess your partner each time they enter Canada for Dual Intent. See:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/dual.asp

The inland route permits the applicant to remain with the sponsor, and apply (and as long as the application is within the permitted visit; be granted nearly automatically) an OWP. This eliminates the problem of working to maintain status while in Canada, as it's valid for 2 years, or the length of the passport (minus one month). This is not a travel document. Inland applicants have a lower Burdon of proof, as it can be reasonably expected that you communicate, when you live at the same address.

As a PR, you are not permitted to leave Canada while the application is in process. If you do, it will be refused.
