1 & 2) It doesn't make sense to compare private vs public. The only valid comparison is public vs public. If you want to say that India has cheap private services that Canadians don't have access to, then that is fair.
This is a true point as well, you have to compare apples with apples not apples with lemons

We all want to be successful in different aspects in our lives. I came from a 3rd world country, Philippines, but life back home is so comfortable. My family has businesses, i am the youngest and i am being pampered. Good thing is, my parents raised us to be independent and instilled good values. I left my comfort zone and came here in Dubai in 2011, here i experienced eating only one full meal a day, the rest of the day only water, biscuits, and chai (milk tea) because cost of living is high and you have to budget the salary you are getting. Just like you have mentioned, there are also people who takes advantage and self-absorbed, locals, other nationalities and worse my own countrymen. Despite the hardship, there are still people who are kind and have a good heart. I don't regret all these hardships, it's a self-fulfillment for me to experience these things to be wiser, more flexible and more compassionate to smaller people. My journey doesn't end here, I am taking these lessons with me when i go to Canada.

So guys, whichever country we came from, wherever destination we will go, there are these pros and cons. There's no easy way to success. If you are afraid to leave your comfort zone, then you better stay home. If you want to take the risk, and in case you fail, stand up, learn your lesson and try again. It's just a matter of reminding yourself why you started it after all.

Above all, pray for guidance....always :D
Well said. It is all about the fit between you and the country.

To end this all, here's the bottom line based on my and some of friends experience.

--> If you are doing good in India have a good job making more then 10-12 lakhs in India (only these people qualify for skilled migration), do not think of coming to Canada. It's not worth it.

reasons
* The private school system in India is much better then Canada public schooling. Your kid will be learning 2 grades less here.
* There is no waiting time for private medical facilities in India and there is world class care, here there is huge waiting time for some of
the treatments. Dental/vision is too costly.
* There are malls, pubs, eateries and all entertainment in India, similar to here or better than here.
* Canada job market is traditional and not very huge, even if you get a job (which is tough), you will save less then in India due to cost
of living and the money you make and takes you pay.

Try immigrating here.
---> If you have security/other issues in India (or any other country) or not making enough money or do not have a stable job, try for immigration here. You will be satisfied than your home country otherwise you will not like.
---> Have loads of money back and just want to enjoy life going around Canada/US spending money.
Hey Kum9999,

i am from india and have lived in multiple countries and am waiting for my immigration, would like to point out a few things

Have you been to a govt hospital in India ? and see the kind of service they have to offer ? the private hospitals have became a business here, you go in for one illness and they tell you have some thing much more ... its became a money making business and i am not even talking about the waiting time in govt hospitals here ... they are over loaded and ready to burst

The level of text book education in India might be the best in the world, but is that getting us any where ... every 2nd person you meet is a MBA / Engineer... our car washing you has finished his 4 years of engineering and the domino's pizza delivery guy who is regular in our society is an MBA... what is good education you need to ask these ppl ?

One more thing i believe in is that if you are struggling in your own country in terms of finding employment, etc then you would struggle in any foreign country as well... coz you would be out of your comfort zone, country, away from your own kind of people and in a new environment .... ppl who think that just my immigrating they would reverse their fortune and life would turn out to be a bed of roses are the ones who crib and spread negativity

Reason ppl immigrate are multiple, some want a better life, some think they can follow there dreams, some think they can earn more money, some are mis informed about the whole thingy etc etc

food for thought ....

Thanks Everyone for good discussion.

Presently I stay in an Island in Malaysia. Warm weather good company, but I can't become citizen for ever. My stay in malaysia depends on the employment, job opportunities are very less. School, I am very uncertain on my stay in malaysia which impacts school, my life style like buying good car, OWN house. So, I am considering canada as a place.

If feedback is welcome.

I am an Indian from a big city and currently living in the UK. I have never visited Canada before but I am aiming for permanent residence hoping for a life better than India or the UK. There are certain comforts and conveniences available in the western world that is not available or won't be available in India in the near future. As a first generation immigrant, by the time we are settled in life and clear our mortgage, it will be time to retire. I won't benefit much from immigration as much as my kids would. I don't have kids yet but they would be the reason why I am building up this platform. I am looking at good healthcare for myself and my family. Government healthcare in India is crap and private healthcare has become very expensive. There are no open spaces in cities to walk or play. I am also looking for a cleaner environment and better education for my kids.

I have moved from India to the UK and started all over. My Indian experience was not considered in the UK and I would not even expect Canada to consider my Indian experience. I do hope my British experience would be considered in Canada but there is no guarantee as local experience is more valuable as compared to international experience. I may have to start in Canada a step or 2 lower than where I am now and I don't expect myself to be a millionaire overnight but I know it will take about 1 or 2 years to learn about the new country, people, culture and gain local work experience to get to where I am now.

It's also a matter of perception. Many Indians move to the western world hoping that it is the land of honey and milk where the streets are paved with gold. Honestly life is much harder especially where you are expected to make your own way up rather than depending on godfathers, do your own household chores where hiring a maid is so expensive and follow the procedure diligently where you can't bribe someone.

The simple fact that you are even asking the question probably indicates that, for you, it would not be worth it.
Let me begin with quoting Ernest Hemingway - Think before you act.

The idea of immigrating to another country sounds very sweet but the truth is, it isn't. I know a lot of people have given you this already so I am not going to dwell on it too much. Let me share some part of my story with you and hope it helps you take a decision. I chose to answer your question because of our similar age and where we are in our respective careers.

We are in 2017 where the entire world is witnessing social and political change at the same time. The old rules are buried, new order has begun to take shape. Its an exciting time to be in and experience what is new and fresh.

I lived in Mumbai with and had a good job in public relations & communications, I earned well and had a lot of friends and a great family who I could be dependent on for my sanity. it kept me alive. I say this now because, as I type this letter from my toronto rental condo a lot that is currently taken for granted with reference to relationship and work ends up becoming a novelty when you land in canada.

dont get me wrong, people are nice just like the weather, they will smile and say sorry almost all the time. The truth is they won't really mean it, its only out of habit. The heat that you curse in India will be much needed for the 6 months of extreme gloominess in spirit and weather. Work is hard to find, if you add the numbers do some research on google you will know the numbers don't add up, unless you are solely relying on forecast reports that the government publishes. The average unemployment level in ontario (read toronto, waterloo, kitchner and GTA region) stands at 7.0%.

The government is inviting a lot of applicants but there aren't enough jobs available to match that. What happens, some become real estate brokers and some end up setting shops and hiring another 1 or 2 guys.

Most people who intend migrating have reasons such as India as poor lifestyle, roads, education, pollution and water. That is true because nobody's salaries are deducted upto 30% at source unlike Canada where you won't even see your 30% of salary. Understand that the job market is based not on meritocracy but nepotism. Most jobs are contract roles and very few permanent. I work in a reputed ad agency downtown at a good role, and the only 3 brown guy in sea of a white men mostly french and Italian decent. Atleast in Marketing you won't be seeing anywhere close to a AVP role or such responsibilities in Canada. Remember ambition is great when you make an impact with your action and a major one. And please don't crown yourself if you even land a good job or a condo, the struggle has always been there where you are, it's just a different one here. So all the brave hearts this is not a war zone, this not silicon valley where people fight for intellectual space.

India is on the tipping point of a digital revolution, be part of that revolution its not the same it was 5 years ago ( less the roads, education) Whether you are in engineering or marketing or sales a 30 year old, you should be adding value and make your and everyone's life meaningful. Spending time to find a job rather than using the same time for innovation is a very stupid move. The long term gains in canada are not many for an ambitious mind, definitely not when you have to spend months to only find a job in your occupation, not sure if it will be a decent level.

Hope this helps!

PS: India Bound Oct 30, 2017.

Good insight.. But will you be moving back 100% on October? Or do you know someone who returned after spending a year or two with no plans to ever come back?

I see similar posts from people in initial years about things being so bad, but later when I check their profiles, I notice that they have moved on and be active in citizenship forums. There is a thread about someone struggling so much in winter, and by the way he had posted, you would have expected him to run from this place. But he still seem to be in Canada discussing about C-6 and never cared to respond back to his old post on what he finally decided despite many people requesting him of his whereabouts.

It could be that he is concerned about C-6 because he is waiting to get his citizenship and then move back once he has it (C-6's intent to reside in Canada clause is a big deal for some). Canada can be difficult for a newcomer depending on the circumstances but a Canadian passport has always been a welcome backup plan and also a Canadian passport allows many people to travel visa free which can be a big plus depending on where you are from. And in some place like the middle east, a Canadian passport can open up high wages for the same work.

So, if there is so much benefit to the passport why people complain as if doing a personal sacrifice entering in to nitty gritties of what's good or bad?! No matter what, people just stay on. Only very few move back to home countries. Others continue even if their careers aren't taking off or winter troubling them etc etc. with some justification for themselves. So irrespective of any advise OP or someone gets, they will still try for PR and still try to move here.

People who have already come here, theres little escape not easy 2 go back. Its for new people who want to come here, think nd come only if one is very sure. Bottom line..Canada is country of refugees and not immigrants.
