Yes, it is strange that in the most recent update IRCC didn't update a thing. Same for me: number of people ahead remained frozen month to month.

There, the IRCC provides the number of cases processed per month (observed data, not estimation), but there is a significant delay, around 3 months (most recent available is the data for March). It is split by province, and for QC for example they have processed 215, 530 and 535 people per month, whose average (413) is more or less in line with their annual quota of 4,400-4,100 PRs for refugies (equivalent to between 400 and 425 per month).
They publish that info around the 20th of each month.

I think we are really stuck in a rubbish system.
The applicants from 2024 are getting their PR, the applicants from 2023,2022 are still waiting, and we, who are in Quebec, are completely forgotten.
They reduced the delay by one month, but the numbers are still the same as before.

Apparently IRCC have finally started the one-time initiative. I am glad to read in 2023 thread that people are getting their FD, P1, etc. in masses...
As per IRCC's estimated processing times, the plan is to process up to 7,000 applications per month.. Again, this is possible. If resources are allocated, IRCC can even process more than this per month.
At the same time, the number of new refugee claims has been consistently lower, with new claims down to ~2,600 per month (from up to 16,000 per month in 2023-2024). It seems that IRCC has managed to put the system back under control.
IRCC wants to clear this protected person backlog and transition us (protected persons) from the Temporary Resident classification to PR. This helps achieve their ultimate goal of having only up to 5% of total population as temporary residents.
The estimated processing times have not been yet updated. As far as I remember, there were 59,900 ahead of me (Aug 2025). I think this month it will be maybe ~53,000 or even less hopefully..
IRCC are doing their part, but are we doing our part? Are we fully aware and appreciative of the new life opportunity provided to us and to our families?

When do you expect that they would start processing applicants from January and February 2024? Because it’s so weird there are many applicants from 2023 who have received their decisions and from May 2024 till December 2024 who received their decisions. I don’t know what’s wrong with January and February and March 2024 applications.
The government wants to reduce the % of temporary residents but they also want to keep to their promise that they are reducing the number of PRs they accept annually. In 2026 that is supposed to be380k but we all know that will not happen if they include their one time initiatives. The number of PRs accepted annually is likely to have more political repercussions than the % of temporary residents so we’ll need to see if they actually accept 130k over 2 years of if it takes a bit longer to have less of an impact on the total PRs accepted annually. All we can do is wait and watch. Even if it takes longer it is still much faster than without the initiative.
