When completing the Personal History section in form IMM5669, should I split my entries in these situations?

  1. Employment with a short overseas trip – For example, if I worked from Date A to Date B but took a trip to Thailand in between, should I list it as:
    • Date A to Date A’: Employed – Citizen status
    • Date A’ to Date B’: Traveling – Visitor status
    • Date B’ to Date B: Employed – Citizen status
  2. Change in immigration status during the same job – For example, if I worked from Date C to Date D and my status changed from implied to work permit, should I list:
    • Date C to Date C’: Employed – Implied status
    • Date C’ to Date D: Employed – Work permit
Or is it fine to keep one continuous entry for each job? I am worrying because frequent trips can make the entries look fragmented and confusing. Thank you so much for your expertise.

Personal History section in IMM5669 is notoriously tricky, especially when you want to avoid looking like your life was a patchwork quilt of tiny time slices

Here’s how IRCC generally expects it to be filled out:
1. Short trips during employment
  • The Personal History section asks “What have you been doing” for every single month of the last 10 years (or since age 18, whichever is most recent).
  • You do not need to break an employment period just because you took a short trip abroad, if you remained employed and it was just vacation/business travel.
  • You can keep it as one continuous line:
Date A to Date B: Employed – [Country where job is based]
You can later mention in the Travel History section (IMM5562) or a Letter of Explanation that you took trips during that period.
Reason: IRCC is looking for a continuous timeline with no unexplained gaps — travel is handled separately, so splitting for short trips is unnecessary and makes the history look choppy.

2. Change in immigration status during the same job
  • If your role and employer didn’t change, you can usually keep it as one continuous employment entry.
  • The “status” in IMM5669 is more about your general legal status during that period (e.g., citizen, student, worker), not necessarily every technical change in permits.
  • If you want to be precise (e.g., because IRCC has asked for exact legal status changes), you can split it into:
Date C to Date C’: Employed – Implied status
Date C’ to Date D: Employed – Work permit
But in most standard submissions, one line with your main status for that job is acceptable, and you can clarify in a Letter of Explanation that the status changed during that employment.
Reason: Over-splitting makes the form harder to read and may raise questions about “gaps,” when in reality you were continuously employed.

Best practice to avoid confusion:
  • Keep continuous jobs as one line unless you actually stopped working.
  • Use a Letter of Explanation to detail short trips, status changes, or anything unusual — IRCC likes clarity more than excessive fragmentation.

@Miss bee we received BIL even though we have valid biometric done for visitor visa earlier. Is it normal practice?
  • IRCC again asked the police report. we have submitted earlier at the time of PR application. Can you explain please?
  • IRCC asked again to provide an updated and newly completed Schedule A Background Declaration form (IMM 5669) bearing an original signature.
  • IMM5562: Supplementary Information - Your Travels.
Can you explain please?

Yes — what you’re describing can be normal in IRCC’s process, and it usually doesn’t mean anything is wrong with your case. Here’s what’s happening:
IRCC sometimes re-issues a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) even if you have valid biometrics from a previous application (such as a visitor visa). This can happen because their system automatically generates the request when moving your file to the next stage, or because they need to link your existing biometrics to the current application. If your previous biometrics are still valid, you can simply inform the visa application centre, and they will confirm in IRCC’s system.
Similarly, even though you already submitted a police certificate during your PR application, IRCC may request it again if the previous one is now considered too old, if they need a certificate covering a period since you last applied, or if they want it in a more recent format.
The Schedule A Background Declaration (IMM 5669) is a standard form that IRCC uses to verify your personal history, education, addresses, and affiliations. They often request an updated and newly signed copy if the original form has become outdated, if there were gaps or inconsistencies, or simply to reconfirm information at the current stage of processing.

The IMM 5562: Supplementary Information – Your Travels asks you to list all trips outside your country of residence in the past 10 years (or since age 18). IRCC may ask for this even if you’ve provided travel history before, to ensure they have complete and up-to-date records for security and background checks.

In short, these repeat requests are part of IRCC’s effort to have the most current and complete information before making a final decision. It does not necessarily mean there’s a problem — just that they’re re-verifying your file.

Thanks @Miss bee for being so fast to respond my queries. One more question, they are asking again for Fund Proof. If the fund value will be different the one was submitted in the early submission, will it have an impact on my application?

No just show whatever you have in your current account. It won't cause any issues.

Thank you for your kind reply! Thanks to your guidance, I was able to confidently move tourism and business trips under one week to the Travel History section. May I ask if an overseas training lasting one month should be included in the Personal History section? I have several details to explain in my Letter of Explanation and would like to avoid making the LOE too long. Thank you!

I applied for non express inside canadaon aug 30th 2024 got no update after medical . Tried calling ircc agents in july and today as well they keep saying info sharing is in progress and security hasn't started which has been the as i ordered my notes in may and got them in june 3rd. I don't know what should i do evem though i don't have any travel history or anything . I feel like i shuld withdraw my file instead of filling siting in backlog

@Miss bee My PR tracker shows COPR numbers for myself and my family with expiry date set to April 30, 2026 with background verification marked as 'Completed' and eligibility as 'Not Started'.

My GC-key account says the following:
1. Review of eligibility: We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
2. Background check: We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.
3. Final decision: our application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

What is the significance of the COPR numbers considering the eligibility and FD is still in progress? Does this mean that the final decision has been made and they are yet to send out the P1 emails?

Thank you!

I already have my eCoPR and my tracker still shows elibigility not started. If you have a COPR number already in your file, you should get P1 shortly.

dont lose hope! i'd say only withdraw your application if you've been drawn on the express entry. I submitted August 31 2024. just recently got medical passed and background completed. if its a family application it might take some time for them to complete background verification.
