Hi
I am new to this thread, was very excited to find this group active with recent dated posts (I visited this page couple of years ago while i was applying for express entry) as i was looking for guidance from the experienced in this arena.
Will go back and see previous conversations happened on this page soon. Just wanted to check initially is there any group for Detroit Windsor daily/weekly commute?

Are there any people moving to Vancouver to maintain their PR card? I commute to Bellingham, WA to work. Hope I can find one in the same situation to co-rent a home office in Washington state.

Hi, I got my PR card last year, and I am currently working in the US on H1B status with I140 approved.
I want to maintain both the statues, but I don't want to commute daily.

It would be great if someone could help me with my questions below:
  1. Can I maintain my H1B status remotely without traveling to the US? Also, what would be the tax implications?
  2. If I withdraw my H1B, will my priority date be valid?
If someone has any better options, then please suggest them.
Thanks for the help.

Hey,

We are planning to rent a space in Bellingham/Blaine. Can I DM you directly so that we can figure something out.

1. Yes, you can maintain H1b status while being in Canada but atleast for the extension purposes its better if you travel atleast once in every month or 2months. You would be filing Non-resident taxes. There are no huge tax implications as such. You file US taxes first and then followed by taxes in Canada(you would be getting credit for the taxes that you have already paid in US).
2. Yes, it will be valid.

Good morning all

I have a question and was hoping if anyone of you know the answer.

I am eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. I also have a US H1B visa on my Indian passport along with an approved I-140. If I apply now and let's say I get the citizenship in a year or so, I will have to renounce my Indian citizenship and return the passport which has the H1B visa. Can I get a new H1B visa stamp on the Canadian passport using the old I797 and approved I-140 or Do I have to go through the H1B lottery again and get a new visa?
What did u end up doing?
