The federal sponsorship program allows you to sponsor spouses and dependent children as well as your siblings, nieces, nephews and grandchildren if they are orphans and under 18. Sponsoring parents is currently on hold.

Then there is a "one other relative" clause and that is only if you have no family in Canada and no close family elsewhere that you would be eligible to sponsor. Then you may sponsor "one other relative" and his/her family to come to Canada to join you.

The PNP's allow you to sponsor family if they meet certain choice immigrant requirements like job training, work experience, prime age etc. SK now requires that the sponsored family member also has a skilled job offer in their field.

I am an immigrant just landed in Ontario, Canada. Waiting for PR card. Once I receive my PR card, I want to go back to my native place and want to get married.
I would like to send my spouse application from my native place and also would like to spend some time in my native place.

I just wanted to know
Will my spouse visa be processed while Iam in my native place

Thank you in advance

No, it will not. A PR needs to be living in Canada to be able to sposor a spouse (unless you are on vacation abroad for very short periods of time - 2 to 3 weeks). If you cannot prove you are residing in Canada your spousal application will likely be denied.

Hi! I would like to ask where is the best place to have medical exam in manila? and how much it will costs?

Thank you :)

You need to go to a CIC panel physician:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=2009&CountryName=Philippines

My wife goes to the IOM clinic in Makati City. She says its pretty fast. I think the cost is around 440php.

Think there's a zero missing there....

Philippines medicals are anywhere from 3800 to 5600 php.

Cheers!

I'm a little excited today about the start of the playoffs. Can't focus.

Hey Computergeek, help me again with a question please?
Where can I find updated information on processing times on the Open Data Project for the Sao Paulo Visa Office? You sent me the info below last year and I wanted to check if it has changed...
Thanks a bunch!

computergeek said:
According to the information from the Open Data Project for the São Paulo visa office, the processing times for the "Spouses & Partners" class are:

20% of applications are completed in 4 months
30% of applications are completed in 5 months
50% of applications are completed in 6 months
70% of applications are completed in 7 months
80% of applications are completed in 8 months

If you don't have any issues in your application (criminal or medical) then you can expect 6 months processing + 3 months sponsor approval = approximately 9 months total.

Hello

My fiance (he is 33 and Zambian) and I (Canadian citizen 29) are sending in application for PR. He is from Zambia and has been in Canada for past 5 years on student then work visa. He could not get a full time permanent job so applied in December for visitor visa and we found out 2 weeks ago they granted it only for 1 month so he has to leave Canada in mid may. We have been dating for over a year and were planning on getting married later this year but after we got the news about the visa we decided to get married right away so are having a wedding 3 days before he has to leave country. This whole process is sooo overwhelming. We can not get the actual marriage certificate until 4 weeks after the wedding, and we need that certificate for the application. So is there anyway we can apply incountry? or because we wont have all the documents is it better for him to go back as per his visa exit date and we just apply out of country? He has already sent off request for his police check. If we apply outbound should he try and get his medical done here in Canada before he goes back to Zambia?

Thanks!!!

Go here and follow the prompts. It's a little confusing to figure out at first. Took me a while :p

If it doesn't work, try refreshing and entering again.

Chances not, but can you afford to apply for another visitor's extension? If you do it the day before his Visitor's status expires, it will give him implied status (either do it online or using tracking so there's proof you mailed an application to CIC). The Implied Status may give you time to send in the application.

If you haven't yet, get started on getting his police clearances. In your case, if you can't find by the time you're ready to mail the application - send it in and then mail the PCC later (either once you get your File # or CIC requests them).

Make sure to include an Open Work Permit application and pay the fees. Once CIC gets that application it will override the Visitor's Visa and give him new Implied Status. He will then be able to stay in Canada until Stage 1 decision on that Implied Status.

There is no guarantee my plan will work, but it's a shot.
