    Thread for September 2010 Applicants

We got ours yesterday, too! Seems like a good day for September filers!

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Nah, I wouldn't put much (if any) stock into ECAS. Ours has been at "in process" since December, with zero updates. Like someone above said, it depends on the officer, but I wouldn't put stock in it. We'd check it regularly but when we really wanted answers we'd send an email.

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

To make you feel better, we sent our application in September and it started processing Nov 12/10. We just got PPR *yesterday*. Our case isn't complex - we're both mid twenties, no previous marriages or common law, no kids, and the only additional docs they wanted were more copies of the RPF...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Thanks! They never asked for a new copy or anything, so I assume they extended the validity. All they asked for once the application was in process was an RCMP check for my husband and more copies of the ROPF receipt which they had lost. I was concerned about the medical, but it was not a problem.

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Just a quick update: my husband got PPR today, June 20/11. We're quite overwhelmed/thrilled/shocked/excited. If anyone applied in Fall of 2010, there's still hope!!!

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

If there's one thing I've learned in this process, it's not to expect any kind of timeframe. Our application showed in process as of Nov/10 and we've still made no headway. We thought our app would be simple - we're both mid 20s, educated, no children, no exes (not even common law). But...

    Thread for September 2010 Applicants

This is getting frustrating! Is anyone else experiencing the same lag? We applied September/10, with an AOR Nov30/10 asking for an RCMP background check for my spouse within 90 days. We sent it, but it hasn't been updated on ECAS. As of now our ECAS just states "in process, meds received."...

    OHIP question from Canada-bound couple

It may be worthwhile to look into personal health insurance as an avenue as well. Depending on the policy, it may cover midwives and hospital births. it will still cost money, but it may cost much less.

How does this sound? (request for 2nd extension)

I think that's all you can do. The proof of payment is a big one - I think that should help immensely. All you can do is apply for extension and hope for the best! It sounds good to me. How long have the two of you lived together?

All right, thanks to your help... here's what I've got. What do you think?

Nyssa, would you mind terribly if I used the general idea for yours for ours? Just regarding the layout/folders/tabs, etc. Also, when we're ready to start putting it together can I run it by you for some opinions? What you've put together is really something else!

Join Canadian Immigrants' Rights group in Facebook!!!

I'm sorry for your situation. Did you and your wife find out the reason for the refusal?

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

As Leon said, sponsorship is as big of a commitment as marriage - some might even argue moreso. As far as whether you can apply common law with him gone so frequently, I don't know. I'd recommend calling immigration. It's indeed a stressful situation. I can assure you, though, that once you...

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

I have no idea. Perhaps it's best to call immigration and ask? Maybe one of the more seasoned folks on here will have an answer. That, to me, though, sounds like a phone call is worthwhile.

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

Cosign. Maple, apply for the extension first, get that out of the way. Then determine what you want to do. Common law sounds best for you two, unless things change down the road. One thing I've learned is baby steps. A bit at a time. Otherwise it's overwhelming. For right now, get the...

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

Indeed, I can relate. Before I was adamant as well, having had reservations my whole life about marriage. Now, I feel it's the natural progression of things for my partner and I. His support has been a great help too. When he said 'why delay the inevitable?' it hit home.

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

Absolutely. We had to shift our focus from being together in the present to planning for the future. 'Play ball' as my partner says.

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

Why don't you try to get the extension and then talk to your partner a little later on? It's not just a piece of paper - it's a huge commitment and should be regarded as such. Rather than making a rash decision and concluding that he doesn't love you, perhaps apply for an extension and give...

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

Exactly. And equal on paper doesn't really mean equal in application. If it was equal in application we would had a fairer shake. Instead, we can't even qualify as common law now. We were intending to marry regardless, but I'd be lying if I said the fact we're doing it right away didn't have...

    inland/outland?common-law sponsorship

I've yet to see documentation indicating otherwise as well. That said, it was made impossible for us to apply common law because they took away our opportunity to qualify. And, frankly, they can. We did demonstrate that we are in a common law relationship. We provided documentation. We were...
