Hello all,
I had a query regarding Canada experience working remotely. I began working from May 25th onwards but had to travel to India for the delivery of our child. I travelled to India in October 23rd and intend to return on Jan 23rd. My company allowed me to work remotely during this period and also got paid for my work, but I have two main questions,

Does my work experience count during this period in India? I have been paid and have pay stubs for this period
I will also be taking 4 weeks of paid paternal leave in India. Will this also be considered for the CEC?

Any advice would be very helpful.

Thank you!

No, this does not count towards CEC. It counts as foreign work experience.

Thank you for your prompt response, I also just spoke to a lawyer, he said that if the justification is reasonable (birth of child), and since I am paying taxes in Canada, I should be fine. Is this correct?

I don't agree with that.

Claiming Canadian work experience requires you to be physically working in Canada.

It will ultimately be up to the visa officer who processes your application. One visa officer might give you a break and let you count the time. Another visa officer may stick to the rules and not allow this. You'll be taking a chance.
