1. No work experience gained while being a full time student in Canada can be counted. No points for those. Only exception to this is NOC 4012.

2. Paid NOC 0/A/B work experience acquired within the last 10 years while being a full time student OUTSIDE of Canada can be counted towards CRS points for foreign work experience and/or FSW eligibility points. Of course, this has to be supported with a valid reference letter.

3. Such experience will be part time or full time depending on the number of hours worked/week in addition to full time studies. If hours/week were less than 30, they would count as such. If more than 30, it will be treated as a full time experience.
Hey guys, same thing here - have working experience while studying. Good to hear that stuff, but shall I include the supporting letter with the explaination that it is legal to have part-time job while studying? (All the reference letters and other official proofs already collected)

Hi,
again, the work experience that has been gained during your full time studies in Canada (while on the study permit, having the off campus work permit) will not be counted even if you provide any kind of supporting letters.
On the other hand it is counted if gained during the studies outside Canada.

So if I worked 20 hours per week part time, does 5 years count as 5/30*20=3.33 years of equivalent full-time?

My experience was outside Canada, but my question was - do I need to include a letter of explanation to explain how I managed to study and work together?

30 hours per week is 1560 hours per year.
20 hours per week is 1040 hours per year.
So yes, you have 3.33 of equivalent full-time.

My home country is Pakistan. But I went for studies in UK. Worked and studied. In that case do we need LOE?

if u were on a stu visa and not authorised to work more than 20hours a week then doubts might arise....so bettr to understand scenario again and raise loe if needed.

Thank you. I was allowed to work full time during holidays. Does full time work exp has to be calculated every week? What if I have completed 1560 hrs/year by working extra hours during 3 months holiday and remaining months worked 20hrs/week?

No. Work experience during full time study does not give any extra points. I just checked on my CIC profile. They only gave me points for 1yr experience with the following profile:

Primary NOC - 0621, Qualified to practice - June 2013

6211 -15hrs
Sep 2012 - Oct 2014
0621 - 37.5hrs
Nov 2014 - Present

Undergrad Study
Sep 2010 - June 2013
Postgrad Study
Sep 2013 - OCT 2014

Im an outland candidate.

Hi Asivad,

Thanks for the explanation!

Based on what you said in your fist point, my understanding is that if I worked as a Teaching Assistant while studying as a full time student in Canada, I will be able to count the experience towards Canadian work experience. May I confirm with you if this understanding is correct?

Additionally, I have 2 work experiences which I am not sure if they should be counted towards my work experience, could you please kindly share your thoughts on whether they can be counted for Canadian work experience with me?
1. Teaching Assistant - May 2012 - August 2012 - I was doing my last and only course left for my undergrad degree, because I was only taking 1 course I was considered as a part time student by the school. I did not have a PGWP at the time though.
2. Senior Tax Associate - September 2015 - October 2015 - I returned to school for a Master program and studied as a full time student beginning September 2015, my PGWP did not expire until October 5, 2015. Considering I still had a valid PGWP in September, do you think I could count my hours during September 2015 towards my work experience?

Thank you very much for your time and help!

Best regards

Justin

Are you sure about that? According to description of your NOC, it does require only secondary school. Did you mean they gave you points while counting your CRS score or they reduced them during the checks after ITA?

Can I use my research activities during Ph. D as working experience under noc 4012? I got paid for it. It was around 15 hrs per week between 2009 and 2013.

Yeah. I had 447 points in my profile with just the 2yrs full time experience. Then yesterday after going through this thread I added my part time experience on the profile as well to make it equiv to 3yrs experience. But unfortunately there was no change in my score.

Just curious do I need to add my secondary education in my CIC profile? Do you think that will make any difference? I only have ECA for my Undergrad and Postgrad though.
