I do not think that 2nd line mean anything. Its basically when they open our file and provided the file number and enter our info in the system.
I have been checking the wrong thing thats why I did not see the 2nd line.
My Mom is principle applicant so I have been logging as her and I do not see any update.
But If I login as me(the sponsor) Then I click on the "In Process" URL I see the 2nd line.
1. We received your application to sponsor <MY Mom's Name> on January 3, 2014.
Dependents listed on the application are: <My Dad's Name>.
2. We started processing your application on November 5, 2014. (Basically they sent the email with the file name after couple of days).
I do not think they really start processing our application yet.

Are you sure that you received email with application number in Nov, 2014? Most of us received that email on June 9, 2014.

I think it makes sense. They first started processing the sponsor application (previously we had 2 different applications, in 2 steps, for the sponsor and for the sponsored), and probably that`s why you see "In Process" under your login only. When they start processing your parent`s application, I think it will show updates under they login.
Previously we had to qualify as sponsors first, and then submit the second application for the sponsored, a permanent resident application. Now they merged the 2 applications, but I think they still process it in 2 steps.

I think as you are the next batch of applications after the completion of 2011 cases, you are most likely to see some movement on your files in 2016.
Going by the past couple of years usually around summer time the letters for next group of applications are sent out. All the 2014 applicants should be in that next group.

It seems that the applications received on Jan 3rd and 4th 2014 have the "In Process" line now.
Please anyone else with this new status?

2011 cases should all get finalized by 2017 hopefully. The problem is that for the last few years only 20000-25000 PGP visas have been issued each year so with about 30k-40k cases from May-Nov 2011 and the earlier cases from before May 2011 still to be finalized it will take this much time unless the govt decides to issue more visas to speed up processing times.
The govt did promise to speed up processing lets see what happens.
