HI All

I have landed and waiting for PR card. But I need to travel to US. Can I come back to canada without PR card. I read somewhere that we can come back using our COPR if we drive by car. Not sure how true this info is , nowhere in CIC i can find this info

Can someone pls advice

If you travel outside Canada, the PR card is your proof that you are a permanent resident of Canada. If you leave Canada, you will need this card to re-enter the country on a commercial vehicle, like an airplane, boat, train or bus.

Your personal car is not a commercial vehicle so yes you can come back using COPR from the US.

If you have a visa-exempt passport you can travel on an airline and enter with your CoPR. I have done it twice now and they didn't give me any hard time at all. Other people have reported the same as well.

This might change though after March15 when they start using the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Any one called cic?

Yes you can. When I did my landing, the immigration officer at the border told me that I can come back to canada through land border without PR card. Make sure you carry COPR document with you.

Thanks for the info. Can you let me know if this info is mentioned anywhere in CIC. I searched in CIC but cdnt find

Just received an AOR email for my PR Card! Anyone else got that email before?

Subject: Citizenship & Immigration Canada: R*********

UCI: ********

This confirms that your application for your Permanent Resident card has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2015/09/30.

Quink (obviously I changed my name here)

When should I contact CIC?

You must notify Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) of any changes to your application. Examples of changes include:

Appointment or change of immigration representative or designated individual;
Decision to withdraw your application;
Change of contact information: e-mail, mailing address, telephone number;
You found your lost PR card - application for replacement is in process, card must be destroyed, replacement application not yet in process.
Changes to your address should be made through our online service at www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/change-address.asp.

How do I check the status of my application?

You may use your 8-digit Unique Client Identifier (UCI) number located on this correspondence to check the status of your application on the CIC website. Please visit www.cic.gc.ca/english and in the "Most requested" section on the right-hand side of the page, select "Check your application status".

How long will it take to process my application?

Processing times vary. You can consult the processing times by visiting the CIC website at www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp.

Please be aware that answering e-mails takes time away from processing applications. For this reason, unless your application has exceeded normal processing times, please limit your correspondence to notifying us of changes in your application.

Sincerely,

Permanent Resident Card Centre – Sydney

I have recd same email in December first week for my wife only. but i still havnt recd PR cards neither me nor my wife.

Yes its not a commercial vehicle

At canadian border office can identify you as a permanent resident because they have you in the system. Carrier cannot let you board because they cannot verify your visa and COPR says its not valid for travel. So if commercial carrier lets you board and if you don't have a visa, CIC fines the commercial carrier. So carrier doesn't let you board without a visa in passport or pr card.

Did you call cic to know status?

I have called several times in December and as usual standard response to add 3-4 weeks due to slowdown in PR card production.
