Stupid question maybe...but I suddenly realized I don't know the correct process to get a PR card :o

Landed in Sault Ste. Marie on August 8. ECAS shows my updated mailing address. I THOUGHT they would simply mail the PR card to me. But now I see that you have to APPLY for a PR card with extra paperwork? What am I missing? I thought this was automatic. Please help straighten me out! ???

Depends..
You will apply for the PR Cards when you land. You will need to provide an address in Canada for these cards to be delivered to. You cannot provide address in Quebec ( if your application is for English province ). It typically takes approximately 8-16 weeks for the PR Cards to be delivered, so if you are not staying in Canada this long, you may wish not to apply for the PR Cards at your time of landing. You can apply when you enter Canada again, but will need to apply for a travel document tin order to facilitate your return to Canada.

Did you give PR mailing address at the time of landing? Did you fill IM5444E form? If officer asked for mailing address at the time of landing, this will be for PR mailing address, and he must have filled application for you . . . Hope it helps...

Great information. but I'd like to beg to differ about the Quebec address, it is understandable that a Quebec address can create confusion, but there are cases where federal immigrants give a Quebec address during landing and it's also accepted. But I would highly advise to avoid giving quebec addresses, it really depends on the agent that you are dealing with. It's a grey area. Some of them understand this is just an address to receive your PR card, you may not plan to live in Quebec, but others will challenge you on that point.

"but there are cases where federal immigrants give a Quebec address during landing and it's also accepted" - I am living proof for the same. I gave Quebec address at the time of landing, and POE officer showed me some immigration document which stated PR card cannot be send to Quebec if your application is for English speaking province.

Quebec is a province of Canada. As such, it shares immigration laws with the federal government of Canada. However, the province signed an immigration accord with Canada. Quebec is responsible for selecting the workers wishing to settle in Quebec, to achieve certain immigration objectives. But the federal government of Canada is still responsible for admit¬ting the immigrants. There is additional bunch of documents and a different process for Quebec region. You are free to move anywhere within Canada. But this additional laws and process can create roadblock to aspirant immigrants - hence i am thinking POE has laws for these.

there

My Decision made status has not yet changed to complete although I landed in Calgary a month ago!!!!!

Now is this something I should be worried about?

At the day of landing I could not give the officer a Canadian mailing address, so he gave me a form to complete once I got an address and that what I did a week afterwards. So address did changed in Ecas accordingly accordingly however, Decision made still there!!!

I called CIC several times..I got nothing.. :((

Please advise

Thanks

Thanks for the info to all regarding process to 'apply' for card. I believe officer must have done it for me as he did verify a mailing address for my PR card (what he said).

You are not alone here.... I have the same issue...from what i gather from this forum, you will most likely have to do a case specific enquiry by calling CIC... But it shouldnt matter it seems.

I landed May 21 and I have still NOT RECEIVED my card yet. My wife received it but I did not. I gave the address of my lawyer. Its been more than 136 days.

What do you guys think is the problem?

Hello everyone,

I became landed immigrant at Tornoto airport on 12th Aug-15 and applied to PR card for myself and my family..
Anyone who landed in August 2015 received their PR cards or any updates?

My Canadian address is not updated on my ECAS, however I called CIC and generated case inquiry under technical problem (as guided by CIC person on phone). Like eveyone, we provided our mailing address in Canada and officer updated the same on COPR ( one copy with photo the officer took and the 2nd copy handed over to us).. The mailing address is written on the COPR.

So, is it normal and CIC will mail our PR cards once ready or I need too follow up more with CIC?

Comments will be highly appreciated.
Thanks to you all for your time and valuable information on the post..
