As frustrating as the process is.. for all those who are thinking of travelling -you can use your COPR to cross the border in your own car and fly out from the US. Not ideal but its an option. You cannot cross the border on a commercial vehicle without PR card but its doesnt stop you from leaving and entering in your vehicle.

If they accept COPR at the border, I don't see why they can't accept COPR at airports. It's a compromise they should be making since they take so god damn long to process a simple PR card. You can't expect someone who lives far away from the border to say, fly into Buffalo, rent a car to drive across the border to Toronto Pearson, connect to another flight at Pearson again for instance.

April 3 landing here at Rainbow Bridge - still waiting for PR cards... :-\ This is frustrating. We want to go on trips!!

Was not allowed either to get OHIP card renewal on presenting a border copy of COPR; they wanted to see PR cards. :'(

We eagerly anticipate receiving some happy inbound mail from CIC soonest.
The process continues... 8) Good luck all!
Why and who asked PR card to issue you OHIP ?
I am confused .
For us they never asked PR card to issue OHIP card

Well, its not the immigration officer, who stops you entering Canada. It is actually the airlines, which stop you entering Canada. If you wanna enter by land, no one stops you entering your car. At the end of the day, you can convince the officer by proving you are PR. So, as long as the airlines let you sit, you are allowed to reenter. But, the airlines, most likely will reject your admission into their flight as they dont want to be in trouble with once country's immigration system.

This boils down to CIC putting that damn "Not Valid for Travel" chop on the COPR. If they were to officially legalize the COPR as adequate legal proof of documentation to verify one's PR status, then airline officers will accept COPR as proof of PR. I know that COPR is a flimsy piece of paper, but if they take more than two months to produce a freaking card, then they surely need to find a fast alternative to allow new PRs to travel.

Lucky fish! Our process is now in the 14th month - and there was no hitch during the processing of the application... except for receiving the PR card after landing off course.

Service Ontario refused to renew my Ontario Health Insurance card when I went in. I was very angry when the lady refused to process my application - even when the border official and many other sources told us to take the COPR copy to get a new health card and SIN number. I guess it was just some fuzzy-headed government employee who did not know the rules, but because Service Ontario required to see the PR card, I just left going to Service Canada for a new SIN number till I have the PR card in hand.

But I just realized now that that my health card had now actually expired... So I don't know what to do now... wtf

Just go to another Service Ontario branch and apply. The person who attended to you was incompetent and didn't know the rules. I got my Health Card renewed with only my COPR.
