in my case I have work permit with validity till Dec2014 and I am a landed immigrant in March and waiting for PR card.

can I visit my visa required country and come back basing on the work permit/multiple entry visa though I am a landed immigrant absent a PR card?

nee to travel in June for a family function

any other suggestions to circumvent this archaic and cumbersome issue. thanks in advance for your guidance

Once you landed, your WP had been void. Usually the WP is taken by a VO while landing. You can travel to your home country if you want with no problem at all. On the other hand you'll face a problem to get back to Canada without a valid travel document (you'll not be allowed to get any commercial plain). You can use your COPR at the Canadian border, but the problem is, to get there (this is no a problem for visa exempted country passport holders).
So if you travel, in order to get back to Canada, apply for the Canadian travel document back home.

Or travel to the states by land, and fly out from there.

I was told that my card was mailed on May 14, I haven't received it yet. It's been 87 days since I landed.

Told you man! They just keep doing this to us :-\

And the government promise to process the citizenship applications in less than a year.. while it is taking them three months to just print a card... i got crazy.. i need to go visit my family in the summer.. i hate to go from the US.. Ahhhh

Why are they doing this??

Something to watch out for here as the processing time grows, I belatedly went into Service Canada to update my SIN etc. today and they told me that you can only use the COPR document for proof of residency with them for 90 days after landing (tomorrow for me).

Not sure if CBSA apply the same rule (I am VISA exempt and have been using the COPR to come and go from the states with CBSA growing increasingly incredulous that I don't have a card yet each time).

/EDIT:

Their approach to "reducing processing times" is just to make less people eligible. That is what they are doing with citizenship and what I assume they will eventually do with PR as well.

Landed on March 15, 2014. Booked my tickets for July end.. Processing time is 85 Calendar days now >:(

ghatot & rawfile!

I just checked my ecas and found the same msg there, We started processing your application on May 26, 2014.
I am so happy, this made my day! I hope they get to speed and don't make other applicants wait as long as us.
