We on the other hand, are still waiting after 17 months and have no idea, what the hold up is.

I agree, a few lucky cases cannot be a proof it's moving faster yet. Plus, it still depends on the country people come from.

If you are waiting over listed processing time, have you tried contacting your MP (or your sponsor's, depending on who lives in Canada). They might be able to help you, there were a few cases where MP really stepped up and made application move forward (in my case for e.g.).

They've requested our passport on February 11th with an additional document that I missed some information on, we used a VFS Global (CVAC) to send the passport/document. On February 18th they sent us an email requesting 3 passport sized photos which were not part of the original request when they asked for the Passport, we sent this using registered mail so we could track it. It is strange to me that they requested the photos afterwards.

I have tried to call/email the office to confirm our photos have arrived to the correct person, no response.

I was told they won't contact us unless they need something and that they won't contact us when the passport is sent back as well? Hopefully they use the same method I sent the passport in to send it back (CVAC) and not registered mail

Anyway, we're basically just waiting now and checking emails.

My wife lives in Bosnia and I live in Vancouver, BC.

If I remember well, CVAC is the place in Sarajevo where you give your application and they mail it to Vienna (I did that with my TRV)? If so, your wife's pp and copr will be returned the same way and they will call her to let her know when she can come to pick it up.

And yes, they will not confirm they got the pp, if you call/e-mail it won't help. And you won't know when they mail it back (except maybe your ECAS changes to "decision made").

In our ECAS the status has changed to "decision made" but passport has not been mailed back yet.. hopefully soon.

I am hoping that someone may be able to help.

I sponsored my husband in August 2014 (outland). CIC requested the new form which I sent and they received it October 15, 2014.

End of November they sent me a letter which I received in January 2015.

The sponsorship approval stage was denied because over 20 years ago I sponsored my mother and her husband, after they separated her husband applied for welfare (2001), I was never notified, I was pretty upset about this because is going to delay my papers. I requested the information from the overpayment recovery unit and they are working on it, I should receive the letter next week and I intend to pay the money right away. However, the overpayment unit will still take 4 more weeks to send me confirmation of repayment.

When I submitted my husband's application I paid the fees in full, he did his medicals and police clearance and I checked the box to continue the processing and forward the application to the Vienna Visa office.

The letter I received from CIC says that
"a sponsorship can only be approved if all eligibility requirements for sponsorship are met on the day on which the application was filed and from that day until the day a decision is made with respect to the application"

My understanding is that I have to withdraw the application, receive confirmation that the payment has been recovered by welfare and then submit a new application. I have not withdrawn the application yet. When I called CIC, they told me that as long as I pay the money I would no longer be found to be ineligible but the people that answer the phone in the call centre all give you different information.

I was waiting for the letter from social services so I did not withdraw the application. The thing is that now my husband received a letter from the visa office that he has an interview on March 24th.

They probably figured its an easy denial since my sponsorship approval stage (1st stage) was denied. Another wrinkle in the process is that my husband lived in Canada for almost a year, he is a denied refugee and if approved will have to apply for Authorization to return

I have a few questions:
if my husband takes the confirmation of repayment of social assistance benefits letter to the interview, does the visa officer have the power to approve his application even though Mississauga denied me as a sponsor?

I am really hoping that I will have the letter by then. My other question: are we able to reschedule the interview to a later date?, has anyone been able to do this? I realize is a very slim chance but I rather take the chance than not try.

We have lots of proof over 100 pages of communication (doubled sided) from viber, sent more than 20 photographs, letters from family and friends, I work F/T and have enough funds to support my husband but I also know that in this case the officer has most likely already made a decision.

I plan to talk to my MP, they already know about my case because I had to involve them when I waited over 6 weeks for the response from CIC (ecas showed decision made Nov 27, 2014 but I didn't receive the letter until January 6, 2015).

Has anyone read about a denied case that has been approved at the interview stage, I know it would take a miracle to be approved, we already started collecting the original documents for a new application(option C, police clearance, pictures etc) I hope we don't have to go through the waiting period again, we will if we have to but I was hoping someone may be able to offer some information/advice.

Thank you very much, yes we were lucky,as for your case not sure why the huge hold up is ,but from reading your previous comments I Would think must be your partners refused refugee status from before ,if I remember correctly .How ever I hope you will have some news soon,and maybe asking them via email them is not a bad idea .Best wishes,must be hard on you.

You might be right,but I am positive that Vienna is faster now,since till last year people have waited 12 to 15 months from my country and region,we are not visa exempt.My application was done very well,but I had a dependent 11 year old with me ,so it wasn't as simple.Plus we didn't sent upfront medicals ,cause we expected to wait for over a year.I Strongly believe now that if we sent upfront medicals we would be approved even faster ,and I see many on here and in general lately get approved .I hope i am not wrong.

You might be right,but I am positive that Vienna is faster now,since till last year people have waited 12 to 15 months from my country and region,we are not visa exempt.My application was done very well,but I had a dependent 11 year old with me ,so it wasn't as simple.Plus we didn't sent upfront medicals ,cause we expected to wait for over a year.I Strongly believe now that if we sent upfront medicals we would be approved even faster ,and I see many on here and in general lately get approved .I hope i am not wrong.

Oh, I understand, you have a slightly more complicated case, and your case is within that famous strike Well, I surely hope that you will get approved and your family reunited soon. Again, I would contact MP if you wait much longer, since they can really help (especially that you're over the processing time). Good luck!

Is it true that Vienna asks for passport photos when you send in your passport because they make your permanent residence card ahead of time which they give you at the airport? Or some kind of document that has your picture which previously was done at the airport's immigration? So to speed up the process at the airports.

Interesting, they asked my wife to send in her passport + a document, then shortly after they requested 3 photos to be mailed in.. we're still waiting for the passport/docs.

Probably not .. I sent them an email on Jan 21th I asked for the information about our application and they responded the next day .. We received approval from Missisauga on Nov 12th and the app was transfered to Vienna VO on Dec 3rd . ECAS status was changed in the morning and in the afternoon I received an email requesting the passport, the same day..
