Just got notification that the sponsorship is approved and the Visa Office is LA - no mention of CPP-O : . They're giving a wait time of 10 months for stage 2.

so now they are sending to LA office... as per the cic website says.. good...
hope Ottawa quickly finishes the processing of the files remaining .. and sends to LA for visa issuing...

Their site says 69 Days, working on applications received on July 12, 2012. Yours was filed middle of August, 2012. Lucky you.

I wonder how they decided which US outland apps to keep processing at CPP-Ottawa and which ones to immediately send to LA? Seems like there are at least two people who were sent to LA immediately after sponsorship approval. In my sponsorship approval email, ours stated it was forwarded to CPP-O.

Thanks! Yes, we are lucky - only 39 days . Most August applicants have approval already even though not everyone from July is done with stage 1. I'm wondering if their staffing was affected by summer vacations?

Our sponsorship letter said the file was being transferred to LA, but in fact I know it was processed in Ottawa and only finalized in LA.

Given that many approvals have come from CPP-O and that CPP-O has been very slow on step 2, I have hypothesized for some time now that CPP-O has been using step 1 as training (or simply have used the VOs in CPP-O to clear out the backlog for step 1). So, hopefully now that the step 1 backlog has dropped significantly, hopefully we'll see step 2 movement/decisions ramping up.

Depends on when you applied, where you applied to and if you have passed first stage or still waiting on First stage.

Also depends on how complicated your file is, how many people you are sponsoring etc.

Honestly, all you can do is look at the average times and hope you're within those timelines.

It really is individualized. I moved to "In Process" after others but received "PPR" sooner. Then again, I had the advantage of having been thoroughly reviewed previously, so the only issue for our application was the legitimacy of our relationship. Security had already been done (for a previous refused application) and I'd been living in Canada since that previous application was processed. There are so many factors involved, it really is impossible to know.

Plus, the whole Buffalo two-step is causing lots of problems.

Back in March the advice was "go outland, it's faster" and I'm now seeing couples from February 2012 inland getting first and second stage approval while February 2012 couples outland are still waiting. So things keep changing.

CIC has been promising that inland times would improve for quite a while, so that seems to be materializing. The Buffalo two-step was unexpected, but eventually should also lead to faster processing times and lower costs for CIC.
