Hello. We just applied for my wife's sponsorship (inland). Does anyone here have experience of submitting an open work permit application with the sponsorship? Can you share your experience especially in the timeline for the work permit? Thank you.

The OWP will be issued after she reaches the AIP (Approval in Principle) stage (likely at least a few months, but could be longer of course), which will also mean that you have been approved to be her sponsor; this is why she would be Approved in Principle, since having an approved sponsor is the first, most important piece of the puzzle. Assuming the OWP application was included WITH the Inland application (in the same envelope/parcel), it will also extend her current legal status (assuming she has status now) should it expire before she is approved for, and receives, her OWP and ultimately her coveted COPR document...followed by the `golden' PR Card. LOL!

Try not to `watch the clock'...if you can.

If your wife has valid status in Canada (work, study permit or visitor), if you included OWP in your paper based application, OWP will be grant. Timeline is pretty hard to tell. It's best to look at the current trend in 2022 inland spousal sponsorship discussion and get an idea.

If you submitted the sponsorship application via the online pilot, I think you can submit the OWP application once you have reach AOR. (when IRCC acknowledge that they ahve received your completed sponsorship application). Do check with others since I am not familiar with online application.
