Andrew Brit - Thank you for the information. I get concerned about dual intent because CIC state that:

Assessing dual intent
A person’s desire to apply for permanent resident status in Canada may be legitimate.
An officer should distinguish between an applicant whose intentions are bona fide and an applicant who has no intention of leaving Canada at the end of their authorized stay if the application for permanent residence is refused.

They go on to say further that you must be able to show your intent to return to your country should your PR be refused.

Can I also ask - as of March 15th, Canada will be bringing in an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) requirement for those travelling to Canada, which is just a fancy term for a VISA. UK visitors will have to have an ETA before travel to Canada. Does this mean that people from the UK are no longer VISA exempt, and, if so, does this then affect the idea that my husband could visit Canada for 6 months? I keep looking into this issue but details are sketchy....
No. British citizens are still visa exempt. Also you will only need the ETA if you arrive by air, not land or sea.
I find CIC has a lot of info on the ETA here.

I applied for a ETA prior to my last visit, and i found that when i was at Border Security in Vancouver Airport, they seemed more relaxed than usual, probably because the could see i had already applied for the ETA before it become compulsory also that my notes probably advise them that i am in process with CIC for immigration application.

Yes I have added you Mary23. What time of day do you generally contact London?

Contacting LVO is like trying to contact an ex girlfriend.

Well i sent an email to them around 9pm sunday EST... and got a reply monday morning around 10 am. I usually continue with the same subject line they have told me to reply too. My subject line was created by them in their reply stating application number and some initials they used as code (SF,CD). And they propmted me to always with the continuing subject line. I always receive their reply within 24 hours.
In their last two replies they just stated his application is in final stages or under final review. And i went to MP last month and they got a reply background checks are being done. And MP secetary said to me if i dont receive any decision made within next 3 months. Contact us again.

You are really over-stressing about this. With a sponsorship app in process and your Canadian spouse and kids with you, you will have no issues entering Canada. The whole "Dual Intent" aspect really only comes into play when there is more possibility of the PR app being refused and thus the possibility of the person overstaying. CBSA knows that there is pretty much no chance of a British spousal sponsorship app being refused, so they are very lenient on the whole proof of ties/intent to leave Canada part.

The eTA is not a visa and it has nothing to do with how long a person is allowed to stay in Canada. The length of stay is determined by CBSA on entry.

Thanks Canuck in UK for the information and you are correct, I am probably over stressing about this - I pretty much overstress everything! When you say the length of stay is determined by CBSA on entry does that mean that, if I were to book my partner a ticket with a 6 month return date, CBSA could say no when we actually land at the airport???

Lol, you have given me another thing to over stress about!

Advice gratefully received... :D

Andrew - Brit, thank you for your advice!

fingers crossed you hear something in the next week; May I ask what the secret is to a response ? did you put anything special in the subject line? I would like to provide a little nudge as I haven't heard anything either and would really like to know if we need re-medical

I actually got a response to an email directly to LVO and to my CSE which I sent on the same day as my email. However the response to my email had more information. When you do a CSE line breaks removed so the text of your enquiry becomes one big mass of text, so maybe that is why they gave more information in response to my email as it is easier to follow.

I use the following format:

File number: F000123456

Sponsor name: Your partner's name
Sponsor UCI: Your partner's UCI if known

Applicant name: Your name
Applicant UCI: Your UCI

Hello,

Insert your message here. Make your questions clear and concise.

Thank you,
Your name.

I aim to send it during LVO office hours, so roughly as early in the day as I can. I generally get a response and find that if I do not get one within 5 days then I will not get one.
