Hi Andrewbrit,
just got your note asking if we'd any updates.

Yes. On September 9 my partner was emailed and asked to provide:

copy of his decree absolute
police check for Israel (he worked there for several months several years ago)
FBI check for the US

They wanted everything within 45 days.

We sent his decree absolute because he'd just received notice he had it. He had to make appointments for both the FBI and Israeli police checks and they both said it would be about two months before he gets them. We are still waiting.

On October 9 CIC wanted me, the sponsor, to prove I was living in/intended to come back to, Canada.

His medicals run out later this month so who knows what will happen next.

My partner is loving being with me in Canada but frustrated because he can't work.

Cheer up they said, it can always get worse. So I cheered up and guess what, it got worse. Actually we are lucky compared to some people on here. It's not for the faint of heart that's for sure.

Jonesy
Thanks Jonesy, we had the request for sponsor to reside in Canada but not the PA's request.

Also where are you both located? Spreadsheet says London UK but you say Canada. Thanks.

Congratulations to all those who are getting DM's it is very encouraging to see,

My wife and I are planning on waiting out the application process in Canada. I have read many people going to Canada with a return ticket, are income however suggests we try entering with a one way ticket. We are going to print emails, webpages etc that pertain to our application and try to enter under Duel Intent. My question is has anyone had experience entering with a one way ticket. It would certainly ease my nerves some.

Thanks
I recently came in as Duel-Intent, and I booked a return ticket. It was £450 for a return with Air Canada or £1200 for a single!! Sometimes its worth fiddling with the dates and use a return as a single instead :)

Andrew British - not sure if I replied correctly to your message so here is my reply -

No news Andrew. 328 days now. I sent a case specific enquiry yesterday volunteering information that my partner had not travelled anywhere in the past year as I know his medical expired in August and also asking if we should send a new police check. I received a standard reply email stating that we would not get a reply if our processing time was not yet up, however, as we applied last December and the processing time was then 11 months, I would assume our processing time is indeed up.

No news for you either, I see My fingers are crossed for us all.

Sent a CSE to London to remind them of my medical's expiry in a few days. Hoping this might prompt the "As a one off tell us where you've traveled" email that others have got so far. Also asked them for a general update. I know I won't get anything but I thought I'd prod them and point out that quite a few 2015 applicants are getting their DM's. (Nothing against anyone from 2015 applying of course!)

It looks apparently that either LVO or the Panel Physicians (IOM - Karachi/Islamabad/New Delhi) have lost my wife's first re-med results. So, eventually we went for "second" re-medical yesterday and to "appealed" them to send the results to LVO on time. I will ask them on Thursday if they did so. Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks for the answer andrew-brit, one other question, did you purchase health insurance? Did you get asked about health coverage when entering Canada?

Dear All,

I have a question - my partner and I are planning on going to Canada from the UK in March 2016 with our children. We had hoped to stay permanently as we had thought we would have DM by then. However, my concern is this - if we do not have DM by then, what is the best way to enter Canada for my partner? Me and my children would be looking at staying as we have a property there therefore would only presumably need one way tickets, but, if we booked a return ticket for my partner, are we allowed to just book a ticket that returns in 6 months or do we need to apply for something, such as a visitor visa?! I see people going for dual intent, but it seems that you are allowed to visit Canada for 6 months without needing any type of application (although of this I'm not sure) so could we just book tickets? Also, how would my partner show his intent to return to the UK if his DM has not come through while we were waiting it out in Canada?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

I have never been asked if I have health insurance. I reside in Alberta where it is possible to apply for health insurance as a visitor as soon as you arrive.

As your partner is visa exempt he will be under less scrutiny as those who are visa exempt are allowed to stay in Canada for up to 6 months at a time. You do not need to apply for anything.

What some people do is buy a return flight but make sure you can cancel it and get a refund (once you are in Canada).

When entering your husband should say he is visiting and that you have applied for PR and if you do not have it within 6 months you will return to the UK.

Dual intent has nothing to do with showing that you will leave/have ties to the UK, it is about entering as a visitor and hoping to receive your PR within your time in Canada. Showing the officer that you know the rules puts their mind at ease.

Also bring proof of your application such as a copy of sponsor approval or a screenshot of ECAS.

now i have received an email from LVO . asking me to Complete or provide proof of completion of the Immigration medical examination.
and if the sponsor paid the Permanent Residence fee in Canada.
i have already done my medicals in 20 august. so i have contacted my panel physician , they told me i must refer the umi Number that they created for me. Otherwise the CIC can't see that i have been there .
is this mail means that they have opened my file?

Andrew Brit - Thank you for the information. I get concerned about dual intent because CIC state that:

Assessing dual intent
A person’s desire to apply for permanent resident status in Canada may be legitimate.
An officer should distinguish between an applicant whose intentions are bona fide and an applicant who has no intention of leaving Canada at the end of their authorized stay if the application for permanent residence is refused.

[/quote]

They go on to say further that you must be able to show your intent to return to your country should your PR be refused.

Can I also ask - as of March 15th, Canada will be bringing in an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) requirement for those travelling to Canada, which is just a fancy term for a VISA. UK visitors will have to have an ETA before travel to Canada. Does this mean that people from the UK are no longer VISA exempt, and, if so, does this then affect the idea that my husband could visit Canada for 6 months? I keep looking into this issue but details are sketchy....
