Hi everyone,
My husband and I thought that it might be a good idea to connect with other Aussie ex-pats (and partners) all going through the same process. I wanted to be a little less anonymous!
I have created a facebook group if anyone is keen to join.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/730074400442960/

I've kept the group closed to try and avoid a load of spamming etc.

Let me know when you've sent a request and I'll add you.

Also keen for those who have been through the process to join and give insights.
I have joined melanie r :)

The timeline was reasonable a year ago. :) The 14 month average is just an average; so applications are processed much faster (luckily) and some take much longer (unfortunately).

This is ridiculous. I work as a business process improvement consultant and I can only imagine the inefficiencies in this system, particularly given it is such a manual process. The reliance on human work to process applications in the public sector, with little motivating employees (due to poor pay and bonuses) and high-turnover of staff would only add to the time............given that my experience with other services such as Amazon and Apple is seamless, it feels like I am stepping back to the 80's, waiting in a black hole where no one knows what or how long things take.
Sorry for the rant....just had to get that off my chest :(

Technically it's not an average! 80% of applications are processed *within* that time. You could have 79% done in 3 months and a few stragglers that make up the 80% taking 14 months.

Unfortunately, not all applications are the same so it's really hard to come up with a good average. Your best bet is to look at how long it took recent applicants to get through.

Hi everyone,
Just looking through the tread at your processing times and it looks like in the second half of last year most people got the PR approval back in 4 months from SA , is this correct? I have seen a spreadsheet in the past showing the breakdown of approvals for each Visa Office but can't seem to find it any more :( (I was sure I book marked it).

Anybody else end up getting processed by Ottawa when you expected Sydney?

We're in New Zealand. It seemed that Sydney was definitely the office for us, yet two weeks ago when I got SA the letter suggested we'd be processed by Ottawa.

Any thoughts?

We're also in NZ however my SA letter stated our file had been forwarded to the Sydney Visa Office.
Has yours been classified as Inland by mistake perhaps?

Huh. I wonder how they choose. Was really quite surprised when I saw Ottawa on the letter.

Not so sure about Ottawa but I know its usually a good thing to have your application retained in Mississauga, processing time is quick.

So for Sydney it still looks like average time for people on here has been 6-7 months?

Hi all,

Just thought I'd thank you all for your help. I didnt actually post here but a lot of the information was really valuable.

Me and my girlfriend applied through commonlaw, sent the application in February and it was received by Missisauga to be processed on the 8th of February. We made a few minor errors on the form so we were asked to correct them on the 22nd April. Of course, my girlfriend's side of that correspondence never arrived so they called us before the deadline to ask what was happening (we sent it by both post and email but hey). So we emailed that document again on the 21st of May. She was approved as sponsor sometime in May (she called) but received confirmation on 25th of June. I received a passport request on 1st of June but I had to renew my passport so couldn't comply. I sent in a new passport on the 25th June and received the photo request along with photocopies of all pages of my passport. Permanent residency is confirmed waiting on a final admissability review by the immigration officer.

Not sure how we managed to get it done so quickly apart from the fact that we had visited Canada three times to visit family already and had lived together for three years. Our relationship was pretty easy to prove as we had constantly been living abroad together. Foreignors abroad tend to have a lot of documents. I think the major factor was I am young, healthy, educated and we don't have any dependents. Made it pretty straight forward to them I think.

I'd fill in the spreadsheet but the exact dates are pretty unknown.

Good luck for all you applicants waiting out there.

Congrats! That's about 15 days faster than us! I'm amazed that it was that fast AND you had to resubmit documents.
