Congrats! Wow they really are moving fast now.

Chipits- no dramas! I think we have all been through the panic more than once! The worry is like a cycle - it goes away for a month or so and then seems to come back again. It's good to get reassurance from the forum ;)
I am one day behind you so hopefully mine gets here soon! I am so impatient.

Hey all!!
So we finally got an e-mail...but I am not sure if it's stage 1 or 2 AOR. Looking at matthew_fitzy's post, it looks like it might be stage 2, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself since we never heard anything about Stage 1.

It says:
Dear (sponsored person's name),
This confirms that your application for permanent residence in Canada has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2012/08/21.

Thoughts??

If it is addressed to the applicant (not the sponsor) then it will be stage 2. Also, stage one is from either CPC Miss or Ottawa with a note saying that it has been forwarded to the Sydney office, with details of how to contact Sydney, whereas stage two is from the Sydney office and won't really mention Miss or Ottawa.

Congrats! I will update the spreadsheet. You will probably get stage 1 approval by snail mail soon.

Hmmmmmmmm

Has noone had any status changes on ECAS yet? I hope they have started working on the files but just haven't bothered to update as yet.

Bagel can you please walk over to the VO and rattle a few cages please.

Right onto it!

Is it bad that I would actually prefer to be rattling a few cages in the Sydney VO than be at work this morning?! 8)

@ Bagel

I would think that work is actually getting in the way of living life at this stage. I know I've started to to lose interest in work already.

Completely... I have actually been spending time on Canadian job sites! A little bit premature I know, however it keeps me motivated enough to get through the working day, and I momentarily forget about how lackluster I am feeling. I guess I should be careful though!

Hi Guys,
I need some advise. My wife and I are thinking of moving to Toronto in Feb end from Melbourne. We recently found out that my Mrs is pregnant. The baby is due in July. Now i understand the health insurance in Toronto takes 3 months to kick in. What should we do. Has anyone heard of any similar cases.
I have checked the private insurance companies here and most of them need return date for insurance. Please share your thoughts/experiences and give me some advise. Appreciate it. Cheers

is your wife under 30? if so, she can get a working holiday visa which lasts 2 years. by boyfriend is here on one until his PR comes and he was able to get OHIP after 3 months.... not sure what else to suggest. but I know that visitors or people with no status in Ontario will have to pay out of pocket for hospital visits etc.

You can only get OHIP on a working holiday visa if you have a job contract of 6 months or more. After you get your PR, it's three months post landing (as a PR) to qualify for OHIP. At least that's been our case.

You can look in to private insurance in Canada rather than travel insurance to cover you until OHIP kicks in.

You can buy health insurance to cover you until OHIP kicks in (it isn't only Toronto, it is all of Ontario...and most other provinces have the same 3 month grace period even when moving from province to province). You have three options:

1. Wait until the baby is born in Australia and then move to Canada.
2. Buy private insurance to cover any medical costs and still move in February.
3. Move in February without medical coverage and wait out the 3 months (that would put you at the end of May/beginning of June when OHIP kicks in so well in time for the baby) and if medical care is needed, go to a walk-in clinic where you will pay around $60-$100 (much like clinics in Australia who do not bulk bill).
