If you follow immigration data and not the news I wouldn’t say that immigration is under control in Canada yet. The government wouldn’t keep on lying about how they have reduced the number of PRs to 380k a year when if you look at their own data carefully it is actually closer to 450k if they truly felt that it was under control and could easily defend the numbers. I have been a lifelong liberal but look at the data not the Liberal talking points. It was always going to take 5-10 years to correct be immigration insanity that happened under the Trudeau government. You can also criticize immigration policy without being against immigration. As a healthcare worker the issue of the shortage of healthcare workers, especially doctors, is way more complex than you are indicating. I have known Canadian trained MDs unable to find employment in Canada which has mainly to do with shortage of funded longterm care and hospital beds, limited funded OR time, hospital budgets, shortage of other healthcare workers, provincial reimbursement requirements, not training enough MDs for decades, not training enough and too much of certain types of doctors, worldwide trend of doctors wanting to become GPs, etc. The recognition of foreign qualifications has been a problem that has actually gotten better. The desire to try to make sure that Canada license IMGs that meet the standards of a Canadian grad and can navigate the Canadian healthcare system is a valid concern. This is especially difficult as medicine has gotten more specialized and more technical. I have seen examples where IMGs licensed in Canada are great physicians while others are not providing good care. Many smaller communities often decide that poor care is better than no care. Don’t think we have a great system at the moment and it will always be a difficult task.
