Hi, the implementation of this initiative cannot be expected without the approval of the 2025 budget implementation law! The Senate is expected to vote on it next week, then royal assent must be obtained, entry into force is expected in April, after which the start of the initiative can be expected. good luck to everyone, we are all waiting for it..

The budget for this initiative was approved back in November 2025.

I think that you are referring to Bill C-12 which is almost there.. just cleared by the Senate Committee and now pending the final stage: royal assent.

Bill C-12 will provide sweeping executive powers over Canada's immigration system to the Governor in Council acting upon the advice of the prime minister and cabinet.

Official statements indicate so far that this bill has nothing to do with protected persons. However, simply.. who knows!!

In United Kingdom (UK) Initial protection is limited to about 30 months (two‑and‑a‑half years). After that, the Home Office reviews the situation in the person’s home country. Protection can be renewed only if conditions still make it unsafe to return. But Canada has been considering and implementing measures aimed at faster processing and better integrity of the system, but not replacing it with temporary status, Bill C‑12 / Strong Borders Act includes proposals that could make some asylum claims ineligible depending on when the claim is filed relative to arrival in Canada and stable if granted protected person leads to permanent residency and improving integrity and processing
