I applied on June 6th. Sent the documents by FAX to Gingie. She replied saying she will personally hand it over to PNP office. And rest of the details are as mentioned by kangster. So far no news.

ok guys,

i applied like last week of june. I sent an email to PNP staff regarding our concerns and this is what i got from them

We have been quite backlogged, and we will be sending out responses shortly. You should give us 30 – 50 days to assess your application, whereby we will be sending out invitation packages to apply to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program for permanent residence.

As this was a new program launched in April, we are still in the process of ironing out the kinks with processing. We have recently changed the process on our end, and things should be up and running faster.

Just wanted to share with everyone. Most probably they will start sending out packages in the last week of july to everyone. Also, i think if system gets up and running then everyone with 30 days passed will get their packages.

No. All I/we have is their hotline number. But when we call them we can ask for her. Those guys (rather girls) are nice.

This what I have for Gingie from my email I received from her. Its the standard email that I posted here earlier and the only regular hotline number, I do remember speaking to her on this number back in April end or May:

If you should require additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Foreign Worker Hotline at 1-780-427-6419 or Toll free from within Alberta 1-877-427-6419.

Thank you for your interest in moving to Alberta.

Gingie

Hello everyone,

We submitted last June 30 and in the reply Gingie mentioned 50 working days of pre-assessment as well.

Kangster and Ingegarcia,

I hope you get your replies and PN packets soon. Do keep us updated. Thanks!

hello everyone!
does anyone know if Alberta PNP Program (US H1B cathegory) requires me to keep my US employment until I receive the permanent residency in Canada?
I've applied for this PNP, sent all my docs, etc, passed pre-assessment, got confirmation that my application is being reviewed ... and got laid off at my US company (welcome to the finacial crisis of 2008!)
So, does that kill my chances of getting this PNP thing?

Thanks guys!

VladfromNTC,
This stream is a 2 step process 1) Pre Assessment and 2) PNP Certificate. So Question for you
1) When did you apply for Pre-Assessment and when did they approve That
2) If you applied for PNP certificate when did you do so
Answer to your question:
If you are laid off right now, I remember reading that you have to inform Alberta and CIS if there are any changes related to your employment, address, marital status etc. So if you are on H1-B and laid off you may be out of status if you do not find a job elsewhere, CIS at the later stage may (I think they will) request you to prove your legal status in the US and it may be a problem then.
I am not an attorney so in my opinion ask an attorney right away!

Actually I did ask that question at the beginning when I asked for the information about the process. Since I might be somehow in a similar situation. My H1b will expire soon and I might not be able to get extension due to LC not more than 365 days... etc..

This is what they answered me, however I am not sure if my question was answered
"As you are a holder of an H1B visa - you may be eligible to qualify for Canadian Permanent Residency through the Strategic Recruitment Stream pilot program recently introduced by the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)."

So my guess is that since I am still holding an H1B I am still eligible and this would be used just for pre-assessments, once you get the invitation the PNP process will take place.

Again I am just guessing on this.

BTW once out of status you better get out of USA and continue the process in your home country, however I do suggest to contact PNP just to make sure you can continue pre-assesment

Ingegarcia,
I asked Gingie if I could apply from my home country she said "NO" Since you are applying under H1-B Stream you have to apply through Buffalo Office in the US. Didn't make much sense to me but if thats what she said then thats what it maybe.
I am not different here either I have about a year left on my H1B...... counting on you Alberta...... and Praying no lay-offs.

OMG!!! I'll ask again and see what she says this time... kangster when did you asked her?

I asked this in May "I believe I qualify to the pilot program for H1b Visa Holders for the province of Alberta. My visa expires in July 4/2008 and I'll need to leave the country for one year since H1B-L1B is good for only 6 years plus one year due to Labor Certificate was being processed. Please let me know if I qualify and If I can continue process from XXXX home country."

And Gingie answered "As you are a holder of an H1B visa - you may be eligible to qualify for Canadian Permanent Residency through the Strategic Recruitment Stream pilot program recently introduced by the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). "

So I guess either she did not understand my question or she did not read my email.... I'll ask again

BTW my company applied to H1B extension but... who knows.... lawyer said that I mght need to get out after September...

Ingegarcia,
From the response you got it seems your question was not answered. That response seems a very scripted response. I asked her this over the phone conversation on May 1 before I sent my Pre-Assessment. your best bet is to call and talk to someone at the PNP office. I personally think you will be fine, but just to make sure of you may wanna premium process your H1b but ask your attorney too on this

Hi VladfromNYC,

When did you get your pre-assessment approved and when did you send your PNP application docs? in your PNOP application did they ask for any information regarding your employer? If yes, You still have time to look for a company to transfer your H1B to. From my previous experience of transfering H1B, there is a timeframe when you may stay in the US and look for another employer. I forget if it is 1 month or 60 days. Best to consult a lawyer regarding this detail. Then once you have a new company you can contact Gingie to ask if you need to send the changes regarding your employment or just wait if they ask for those documents again (maybe in the stage with CIC).

As for your employer cancelling your visa, lawyer told me that they rarely take that path here in the US since a lot of paperworks need to be filed again for a cancellation. This was a year ago...i am not aware if there is any law recently set that mandates employers to cancel H1B once laid-off.

I hope you find something soon and keep your H1B status. Best of luck!
