It didn't work :(

You might try checking your status using the number from the payment receipt you sent in with the application. Go to https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/?app=ecas&lang=en and enter all the number and use the sponsor's biographical info. If that doesn't work, try using the receipt number and the applicant's info.

And let us know if it works - good luck!

We all went through this. some waited longer than others. It was very frustrating. I would not worry until you have exceeded the time posted on the CIC website for stage 1 applications.

So do applications get refused based on the fact that they do not have Option C. Does the letter from my employer provide enough information to substantiate that I am not on welfare? I am unsure what to do

The letter should be enough. However CIC will sometimes insist that a specific document has to be provided.

If I were you, I would start getting caught up on your taxes asap.

yes I will update my taxes. I have a letter from my employer and I will photocopy my t-4 from 2011. I pray this will be enough. It was a complete oversight on my part. I didn't think option c was required as we are married and have no children. I just can't delay the filing of this paperwork anymore. it will be 12-14 months as it is for the entire process, assuming there is nothing else I screwed up. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

The Option C is a requirement for all applicants. Typically the one exception is people who haven't recently filed Canadian taxes because they are non-residents (i.e. live outside of the country). Having said that, I think there's a good chance you'll be fine. But I would also get caught up on filing as soon as you can. Based on the experiences of three friends of mine who got behind, the 6/7 year mark is where CRA starts actively pursuing you and garnishing wages / threatening to garnish wages.

ok great thank you I will get caught up. In hindsight it is my loss as I know I missed out on receiving GST checks...I am going to make an appoinment to file my taxes very soon. I pray this will not interfere with my sponsorship.

Hey, we filed without option C (you are behind a lot of years though ??? ). That's probably one of the reasons our application took longer for approval. My husband got his taxes started and we got a letter from his bookkeeper saying he was waiting on his returns. He included that in our application package. We had to file it as soon as possible because I had police records from another country that were about to expire and those were difficult to get. We included that in a letter as well.

Last night she the AOR email mentioning application was received on Dec 04,2012 and today morning she got Stage 1 Sponsorship approval email from CPC-M .. A big relief .

Application send to Ottawa? If so, I can add you to the Ottawa spreadsheet.

oh that's is a great suggestion, I think I may do that as well. I just want to ensure I do the best I can with out causing too much of a delay...
thank you this process is very stressful :'(

Hello everyone,

As most know, one of the reasons for a spouse sponsorship rejection is if the sponsor leaves Canada for more than 2 weeks or so (correct me if it is more than 2 wks) during the entire sponsorship process (assuming permanent residency is in Canada). So, the question is.....how would CIC know if you have left Canada to go visit your spouse for more than 2 weeks?? When you leave Canada, there is no passport control as some other countries have upon exiting their country of residency. Leaving Canada, all you have to do just buy a ticket, pack your bags and go......only on the way back you have to go through passport control. How do they know the person is left Canada? Does an airline transfer that info to Canada Border Agency??

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Canada Border Agency does in fact have access to flight manifests from the airlines.

I think if your trip is a bit longer than 2-3 weeks you should be fine. Based on the posts I've seen here - people seem to run into problems once they're out of the country for 2 months or more. But that's just my observation. And to be clear - this rule applies to PR sponsors only - not citizens. Citizens can leave for as long as they want.
