We received our "copies of passports" request on Oct 19th from Ottawa and we emailed them the information the same day. Our question is how long now?

Generally a couple of weeks.

Also, once we do receive the documentation to land, how long do we have before we have to travel to Canada to land? Once we do land, how long do we have before we have to move to Canada?

The expiration will be the lesser of your passport expiration or your medical expiration (one year from the date of your medicals).

For example, my passport expires in 2017, and my medicals expired 5 February 2012, so my COPR expired on 5 February 2012.

If you have your PR, you are free to live wherever in Canada you wish.

You can determine if you're eligible to sponsor your to-be husband here:

ND is unique amongst VOs as far as I can tell, because they ask for the passport at the beginning of processing your file, not at the end. So, it seems common for people to wait 6+ months before they get their passport back.

I just went through this in a different thread, in fact, because someone kept pushing me for a definitive citation. I knew it was in the Charter, but I went and dug out the exact reference - Section 6 "Mobility".

Every citizen of Canada and every person who has the status of a permanent resident of Canada has the right

a) to move to and take up residence in any province; and
b) to pursue the gaining of a livelihood in any province.

Source: Charter of Rights, Section 6(2). http://charterofrights.ca/en/15_00_01

Hi,

Does the applicant need to provide proof of employment? If it is a requirement can the applicant provide pay stubs and banking statements or does he/she have to provide work experience/reference letters?

My husband is having a hard time receiving any sort of reference letter from his current employer.

Please help! Thanks

It's not required for the applicant(it is somewhat required for the sponsor), but it's a good thing to have. It can be the pay stubs or banking information if his company will not provide anything :)

No, it will not affect your ability to qualify for citizenship. The time to obtain sponsor approval is a function of CPC-M, not of the province in which you reside. So right now it's about 2.5 months.

The only province for which processing differs is Quebec. I suppose if you apply in the PNP program it might differ a bit as well...

YEAHHH :D, I received my first stage approval and my new open work permit on the 12th of Oktober. Application was sent 6th of April (Inland). My question now: I have the visitor status document and my new work permit but I am still waiting for final approval, can I travel now or will I have to wait for the final approval? > my job requires me to travel and it would be a great plus if I could do so but I also don't want to risk my PR by traveling. Any help is highly appreciated.

Thank You!

There's technically nothing stopping you from traveling.

However first stage approval and the work permit do not guarantee re-entry into Canada. So there's always a small chance you might not be allowed back in by immigration. And if you're not allowed back into the country this effectively cancels your inland PR application. If you want to play things completely safe, don't travel until you have PR.

Hi Scylla,

thank you for your reply. Is it possible to apply for a change to my visitor status document or to apply for a different document which would allow re-entry? If I would travel now, is it to the sole discretion of the immigration officer if I will be allowed back in? What if my partner would travel with me?
