Thanks for the reply.
The problem is Place of Birth in Passport and in Birthcertificate is different.
Hence wanted to give proof of Passport, License, School certificate.
Please advise how to go about ...

From CIC check list:
IDENTITY AND CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS
Birth and/or baptism certificate
Note:If the birth is registered late, include the original baptism certificate and other original documents establishing identity such as:
•old school records (Fifth class, Middle standard and Matriculation certificate), and
•Voter’s ID card.
Court documents concerning custody of children, if applicable.

At the time of taking passport (long ago 6 yrs) back, they did give the wrong birth place.
Hence there is a mismatch. :(

Please help in this case, what i need to do.

School, Degree, voter id, PAN card will not help ????

Your suggestion will help me to apply it this week.

Thanks

This is something you need to sort out in your country before you submit your application. You might need to apply for a new passport with the correct details. The birth certificate must be submitted (there is no way around that - CIC requires it) and the details on the birth certificate must match the details on the passport.

It will cause problems for you if you submit your application to Canada with incorrect information showing on your passport so make sure you get this fixed up first.

Agreed. Birth certificate is definitely MANDATORY. Who is "they" in 'they did give the wrong birth place'?? Most importantly the name on the birth certificate matches that of the passport correct?? The differing place of birth could be explained in a letter OR you could say nothing, this MAY or MAY NOT cause delays. Up to you whether to renew your passport before submitting . . . or not!

Hi,

Yes, while applying for passport , they did a mistake by giving the wrong "place of birth".
I called up CIC immigration centre,

I told them that " i dont have the spousal birth certificate" , they suggested to write a letter stating "for not having birth certificate" since birth, and provide all other necessary documents.

Will this help ? Or Do I really need to get "Birth Certificate corrected/ Passport corrected".

Thanks

One question comes to mind if you are not going to correct the passport. The forms will ask you for your spouse's place of birth (City and Country) Is your plan to put down the incorrect place of birth as per the passport??? If this is something you will do, your application may run into huge problems when CIC sends the file to CSIS for the security/background search as CSIS may be unable to conduct a proper security/background search. In turn they may find out that the passport has an incorrect place of birth, and one should wonder if they will question if the passport was obtained by providing fraudulent information.

My advise would be, to correct the information contained in the passport, as you really do not want to misrepresent or insert incorrect information on the immigration forms.

In the end it is your decision, and it may turn out to be ok, but it is a gamble.

We didn't submit this, and didn't see it in the check notes. For my sponsor (wife) we only submitted her Canadian passport.

The sponsor does not have to submit their birth certificate, a Canadian Passport, or Citizenship Card is sufficient. However the applicant (sponsored person) has to provide a birth certificate and a copy of the travel document (Passport) and any other documents as per specific country Guide.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3903e.pdf

9. IDENTITY AND CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS
The following documents are required for you, the principal applicant, each of your family members
and your dependent children, if applicable:

• Certificates of: birth, adoption, marriage, divorce, death,
• Absolute nisi decree (Hong Kong residents),
• Custody order for your child and proof that you have fulfilled any obligation stated in the custody
order,
• Citizens of the People's Republic of China must provide photocopies of all pages of the
household register ("hukou"),
• A photocopy of the bio-data page of your passport with a validity of at least 18 months. If you
cannot submit this along with the application, provide it at a later date.
Note: For residents of the People's Republic of China (PRC), a kinship certificate is not acceptable
as proof of relationship.

Just a quick note, I received my landing letter the other day, and it requires my sponsor to now bring his birth certificate to the landing. So, I would suggest, just in case, that this information is correct and uniform across the board with all of the sponsors documents. I would not personally want my information to be incorrect like that because of the dangers of possible confusion with someone else, and you could potentially cause yourself harm declaring mismatched information from your passport to your birth certificate on simple questions like "where/when were you born"

My 2 cents:

-As far as I know, a passport alone is not enough to qualify as an identity document. Strange, since a passport is usually enough in most other cases.

-I sponsored my wife from the US. But she didn't have a US birth certificate since she was born abroad (Korea). She did have an old copy of her family census registry, which served as a birth certificate long time ago in Korea but is now obsoleted. We sent in that and also her Certificate of US Citizenship as her identity documents and CIC accepted them.

So a birth certificate may not be mandatory if you have enough strong supporting documents.

Hey all,
Thanks a lot for looking into this message and raising all the possibilities.
Yes, it will harm my processing if i send incorrect information.
I called up CIC, they suggest to have a cover letter explaining on the "non availability of birth certificate" for SPOUSE.... and provide all other documents.
Though I have the birth certificate, I am not going to send it to them.
Instead I am going to have a ...

AFFIDAVIT OF BIRTH FOR yyyy

Non Judicial stamp paper (Rs 50 or whatever is the smallest amount available)

I, XX, born on aabbcc, at XX, residing at XXX do hereby affirm that:

That I am the father of YYY (Spouse name)
That I have the direct personal knowledge of birth of my daughter YYY
That my daughter YYYY was born on ZZZ at WWWW, India.
That her name at the time of birth was YYYYY
That her mother’s name is RRRRRRR.

This affidavit is being provided because official record of birth of my daughter YYYYY is not available since her birth was not registered.

I declare that the foregoing information is correct.

____________________________________________ _________________

Sworn before me this (NOTARY signature)...

Will this help in anyway ?
Please suggest.
Yes I totally understand that providing incorrect information is very dangerous , hence hoping that if I can explain of not having birth certificate and then proceeding with this plan.
will it help any way ?
Appreciate your response.

srkarthik - jomz raised a good question. Since it is the passport that has the wrong information, what are you going to fill out on your forms? Are you going to put the same wrong information so it matches your passport? This is basically intentionally providing false information to CIC and can have serious consequences.
