Form IMM0008: Box 3. "How many family members, including you, are in this application?"

Do I include myself (the sponsor) in this box as I am also the spouse? So with no children involved, does this mean that this box should be entered as 1 person or 2 people?

IMM0008 is for the principal applicant, not the sponsor. If you have no children, and your spouse is the only applicant, then the number should be '1'.

Well the silence didn't last long. Received an e-mail asking for a Korean police check. WTF.

"This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada. In order for us to continue processing your application, please submit the following document(s):

> Police Certificate: From each country/state where the residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate: Original P/C from South Korea .This must be received at this office by: 2015/05/13

Please note:
Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by the English or French translation completed by a certified translator, and a copy of the original document. If any of the requested document(s) are not available, please submit a detailed written explanation.

We didn't send any translation as each section has English accompanying the Korean.

I'm guessing they..
a. Want a fresh one (Feb.9 original)
b. An official translated copy
c. They lost it

Did your police check include 'lapsed records'? That seems to be where CIC had their issues with everyone else's police check. Myself, Bartjones and K2C all had to redo our checks because of this. Apparently the police office in Korea will not check for this unless specifically ordered to do so by us.

Ya, pretty sure it does, the picture link I posted shows "(including lapsed criminal sentences)" next to the Scope of Reference
I'll have to confirm with the wife.

Other issues could be:

1. police check was too old. (it has to be done within 3 months of CIC receiving the application)
2. translations were not done correctly

Are you still in Korea or have you and your wife already moved to Canada?

The police check is dated Feb.9 and they received it Feb.24

We didn't send a translation because the check has its own English translation on it...or is that not good enough for CIC?

My wife is still in Korea so she can get another pretty quickly and get it translated if needed.

Was this sent to you, or the applicant?

My wife and I sent our app in early January and received SA last month. The email was sent to me. My wife used her @naver email address on the app. I'm a bit worried now about emails sent from CIC getting 'lost' when sent to her naver address.

Anyone else use a naver email address and get emails from CIC just fine? Not sure why I'm worried...

We used my Gmail account for all applications.


Seems that the issue with the wife's Korean police cert. might be that it was printed in black and white and might look like a photocopy to CIC. Apparently another person posted the same issue on a Naver cafe forum and had to get it printed in colour. The document request is for an Original P/C from South Korea (their bolding) so it seems they don't think it's the original.

Does CIC respond to these e-mails if I reply looking for an explanation?

When we got the request for a new police check I replied to their request, asking what was wrong with the first one we had submitted. CIC did respond. You may want to try that if you're unsure what the issue is.

Yes, so they did reply. For future reference for anyone...

"Please be advised that we require a Police Certificate bearing an original stamp, issued by the South Korean Authorities."

Her record check has a traditional Korean stamp near the bottom but it's in black and white not the usual red ink so I'm guessing it's an electronic seal or they gave her a photocopy. Need a new one with some official looking police stamp. Sigh.
