Hi All,

Quick question

I am trying to book my wife on the same flight back with me.

Details of the flight are as follows:

2 Connecting Flights

Casa to Paris
Paris to Montreal
Montreal to Toronto

The landing time (into Montreal) and the departure time (from Montreal) is quite brief.

My concern is as follows:

Will Immigration process my wife in Montreal or when we land in Toronto?

Secondly, if they do process her in Montreal - what does the processing entail? Will it take a while?

I just want to ensure that if they do process her in Montreal, it will be complete before our flight to Toronto

Please advise

Thanks

Hello All,

My wife and I have some great news – She received her Visa and Confirmation of PR papers today.

She called me at 4:58 am this morning to tell me she received her visa and at first I thought I was dreaming but then my 5 a.m. alarm went off and I knew it was the real deal.

I want to thank everybody for their support, prayer and reassurances - the day for her could not have gone easier.

She showed up at the embassy and lined up. A representative came out and split the crowd into 2 groups - Student Group and Immigration Group (approx 20 people, almost 50/50 male/female ratio and some were there under Family Class, some for Skilled Workers)

The Immigration group lined up and then one by one they approached the desk, handed their passport and Immigration file number and then passed out another door. Once the entire group had handed in their passports, they were escorted to a large room and shown a 50 min documentary on Canada.

After the documentary, another representative came in with passports, Confirmations of PR and the original application documents and handed everything back. Basically within 1.5 hours everything was done. For the most part, everybody pretty much kept to themselves and spoke very little so there was little opportunity for my wife to get to know some of the other lucky folks.

So to recap for those are interested in timelines:

Dec 07 2009: Shipped Application to CPC-Mississauga using next day Puralotor service.
Dec 08 2009: Application Arrives in CPC-Mississauga
Jan 05 2010: Decision Made on Sponsor Application and file to be sent to Rabat
Jan 20 2010: Rabat receives application and begins processing.
(Jun 06 2010: My wife receives a call to come in on the 23rd of June to the Embassy)
Wednesday Jun 23 2010: Receives her Visa (no interview)

It seems like Rabat is going on overdrive and a pray and hope that everybody's case is dealt with quickly and with success.

The next phase will be - What happens after she lands? But I have some time for that. For now, my wife and I just want to rejoice at the good news.

Talk to you soon

Regards,

Irfan

I believe it will be in Montreal she gets processed because it is where she is officially entering the country and landing, I am not absolutely positive about that though, so maybe someone knows for sure about that part. My Husband landed in Montreal, but that was his final destination.

If she does have to do her official landing in Montreal, the time it takes really depends on how many people are in line. It is not processing the papers and information that takes much time. My Husband took about 15 mins for that part, but if there are a lot of people arriving to be processed at that time it could delay you. You could be in line a few minutes or a few hours.

There could be a long line to go through the customs window as well as the immigration line.

Have a great trip with your wife. I went to meet my Husband when he flew here also, and it was a great experience to share together.

FamilyMan mister Irfaan

she will be processed in Montreal immigration office.

one more thing u have to be careful. u say she is coming with u from Paris.france. they have their own transit visa requirements. so when u purchase her ticket. ask the agent for transit visa requirements for France.

there will be two security imigration officers standing outside the jetway in Paris flight. they will then take her to another place because she has no france transit visa. u will have to pay i think 70 or 100 dolars for her transit visa. dont foret ur credit card. i say take cash its easy.

once she is in montreal. same thing. immigration officers standing outside jetway when she coms from plane. they will stop her and u two have to go to some speical office inside airport. its good u will be with her so immigration officer will do quickly.
if ur connection from montreal to toronto is missed because officer taking time. tell him to hurry u dont wanan miss plane.
they will make many cross questioning for u and her. they will ask her. WHO is this mane with u? how u knows him. and ask u same quetions. they will ask her for UR home address here in canada. IO will also ask u where u live and what u do for work.
take ur ENGLISH translted mariage contract to show too at airport. also take with u ur destination flight ticket and boording pass.

Familyman - Congratulations!!! I told you it was likely!!!!

Ok, about the flight arrangements, first, your wife's visa for Canada will allow her to transit through the airport in France without obtaining an airport transit visa or Schengen visa. She will be required to stay in the secure area of the airport but as long as she has a "through ticket" (meaning booked all the way to Canada) she will be fine. I believe you said she is flying out of Casa which is good because sometimes the agents at the smaller airports in Morocco don't know some of the visa required/not required laws but Casa is good. She would NOT be allowed to transit through two European airports without a transit visa. For example, Casa-Paris-Amsterdam-Toronto. However, if it is only one, she will be fine.

Regarding landing procedure, she WILL land in Montreal if that is her first Port of Entry into Canada. The Embassy has provided her with all of the papers she requires to present upon landing. She must provide them with her address in Canada as this is where they will send her PR card. There is a paper she was given by the embassy called the COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) where she should complete the information requested. There is also a form to complete for goods to follow she is bringing/will bring to Canada so she doesn't have to pay duty on them. If she is just bringing clothes and personal items, I wouldn't worry about it but if it's more, check out the CBSA website to obtain the GOODS TO FOLLOW form. This is what they want from her as well as the visa (of course!). And they may ask her questions about you and your marriage as well. Some have reported that it felt like another interview. Tell her to relax, it will be fine. Also, the marriage certificate can be in English OR in French (duh!) and she can speak English or French. But it's doubtful they will want to see it. There is no way of telling how long it will take for the landing procedure in Montreal. It could be as short as 45 minutes or as long as 3 hours. It depends on how many international flights are arriving at that time an how busy CBSA is. My recommendation is to leave at least a 3 hour window between flights. I know another couple from Toronto who missed their connecting flight due to landing delays in Montreal and had to rebook.

Congratulations again. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

She must enter Canada before the expiry date on her visa. The expiry date matches the validity period of her medical. For example, if she did her medical on July 22, 2009, she would have to enter Canada BEFORE July 22, 2010.

Hi, can anyone tell me if there are a limited number of visas issued per month from Rabat. I heard Rabat issues 100 Canadian visas per month maximum. Is this true? Please give your opinion. Thankyou

Police clearances are only valid for 3 months for CIC's purposes. Most will have expired by the time they get to the interview/visa part. That's why they ask for a new one.

About 100 visa's a month, I don't know. I think someone is making it up. The target number of PR visa's issued for 2010 for Rabat is 3720 for ALL categories (includes skilled worker, family, investor, etc.). If you divide that my 12 months that would equal 310 visas per month. So I would say what you heard is not true. Now if you are just talking about Family - Spousal category, their target for 2010 is 800 which would equal 66 visa's per month just for THIS type of application.

EDIT - I need to correct my own data. The target TOTAL number of visa's for ALL categories for Rabat in 2010 is 4915. Divided by 12 would equal 409 visa's per month. Again, this is for ALL categories. The number of 3720 is for Quebec Skilled Workers. The number of 800 for Spousal remains the same.

Hi newhusband,

It looks you are going to have a similar experience to mine. They received my husband's application in November 2008 and he was not interviewed until the end of September, 2009. It was a long wait. Average processing times posted on the CIC website are 8 to 10 months for Rabat although there are some who go as fast as 6 months and some as slow as 1 year. There is really no way to predict how long it is going to take with any surety. If you are wondering about your file, you might want to order the CAIPS notes to see if it has been reviewed by the paper screen officer and whether there are any concerns. If you scroll through my previous posts on this thread, you will find instructions on how to obtain the CAIPS notes. These are notes written on your file by the visa officers when they review it.
