I applied through the IRCC portal. Is that the same as the GCKey Account?

Do you have any clues or hints why is taking that long to get an answer?

When we turned in our application, it was for the May intake. We didn't get an update, so we decided to defer to September. Since we had two previous rejections, perhaps that should have prompted a closer look at our application.

Yeah, that's very common for SDS applications. Last year the average processing time was around 20 weeks (not 20 days). And this year we're in the midst of defining the new "normal" for SDS, which is swiftly approaching over 13 weeks. Our application is on week 11 now and so many other applications are in this stage.

Honestly, there is no definite reason why the applications take that long to process. Many people tried to find patterns (maybe it's family applications, maybe previous rejections, maybe being expats in foreign countries, maybe being older, maybe being younger, maybe having this or that program), but the reality is that there are no guideposts to predict the processing time. Some complex family applicants get their decisions in 10 days and some single high-school graduates wait for 26 weeks. Go figure..

I would think that it is more dependent on the mindset of the visa officer, as well as his mood at the time. If this isn't the case, it doesn't make any sense that certain applications, while being nearly perfect, are still being turned down.
