In certain situations, it may invalidate your current card before the actual expiry date!

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...acement-renewal-change-gender-identifier.html

Important information: Upon issuance of a new PR card, your existing (or old) PR card will be invalid after 60 days following the date of issuance of the new card.

One example would be a PR that has applied to renew their card, that still has at least a few months (9 months left is when people can apply for a new card) before it expires and don't receive it within that 60 day window. Even though the expiry date on the old card hasn't passed, the old card would in fact be invalid.

Just an FYI.

Not sure why it would be a huge issue to receive a new card and have to stop using to old one before it expires. Much better to get a new card while the other one is still valid versus having a period where you don’t have a valid PR card. You can live without a valid PR card but would complicate your life if you did have to travel outside of Canada.

Totally agree. This thread was meant to caution those that have applied for their renewal, maybe ~4-5 months before the expiry date. If for whatever reason they do not receive their card within the 60 day window after it has been issued, they would have no idea that their current card, although still valid in their mind - card even `says so', would be invalid.
