Hi,

I have my PR card renewal application ready, Planning to go out of Canada on June 8th and return on July 13th 2026.
Considering the current average processing times of 28 days ( Which I think may not be for everyone ). What if I submit the application and leave Canada on above dates
and return with my current card that will expire on Dec 01, 2026. My only concern is if the card gets processed and issued before I return, my current card may be invalidated?
And may even be not permitted to board the flight ( If I understood the fine print correctly ).

I am also considering holding the application for now and submit it after I return from my trip in July. I am hoping that will still be sufficient time for processing the new card even with any
unforeseen delays, as I don't want to end up waiting on a new card with my current card being expired or cut too close to card expiry date. Do you think July to December be sufficient time
to process the card?

I have a total of 928 days outside Canada. 1,825 − 928 = 897 days ( Inside Canada as of today ).
I will complete my first 5 year period in July 2026.

What would be your recommendations in this scenario. Thanks in advance.

If your card expires in December you have plenty of time to submit it after you return.

Thank you @canuck78

Seems like a plenty of time (4 months, 16 days) to come back from the trip and apply for renewal considering the current 28 day processing time. I guess I am being cautious or planning for worst case scenario that it may take longer due to my longer stay outside Canada and they have to review the application more thoroughly that may end up taking longer than the average processing time.
I am not sure if anyone who has a tighter RO, cutting close to the 730 days got their card processed in and around a months time. I will have to look up the forum.

Let's say if I submit the application and leave Canada and have a friend courier the card back to me, If there are any photo rejections, and re-upload requests, can this be done from outside of Canada?
And do we need to let IRCC know via webform to update the travel history to include my current trip of 35 days into the application for updating the RO days.

Also, Since my time outside Canada is 928 days, does this mean my application will automatically go to a longer manual Residency Obligation Review (ROR) check instead of the automated 28+ day processing?

Thanks!

If you are out of the country you could be asked to pick up the card in person. Not sure how you’re worried about processing time but are planning to get processed within a short time while you are abroad.

I am not sure what the timeline would be and which way it goes, faster or slower, I am trying to think both ways to make sure I am covered either way. I might just come back from the trip and do this.

I have another question from the application regarding 5.5 Time Spent Outside Canada
You must provide all your absences from Canada during the past five (5) years or since becoming a PR if less than five (5) years ago. List your absences from the most recent to the oldest. You must include a reason for the absence in the table below.

Am I correct in entering From and To dates in the table to be same as the dates of my departure from Canada and Arrival into Canada. Basically dates from the literary entered as is, I believe the online forms has the math to trim a day on each side to count them as presence in Canada since the arrival and departure time/day is counted as presence.

This is how I entered the dates in the table based on the Itinerary dates below. Or should I count those dates as presence in Canada and make the From date as 2022/01/08 and To date as 2024/06/29.
Dates entered in the Table in application form
From : 2022/01/07
To : 2024/06/30

Itinerary Dates :
Dep from Canada - 2022/01/07 20:15 pm
Arv into Canada - 2024/06/30 - 08:45 am

Thanks!
