Hello Frds,
Does anyone know how long it takes to get RCMP check if you are outside canada?
And why CIC would request RCMP for a person who never stayed in Canada in the first place?

1) if you are outside of Canada, you don't have the option of applying through a service using electronic fingerprinting, so you'll have to submit fingerprints by mail - that takes longer, up to 18 weeks.
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm#immigration

2) They ask because (a) CIC can't just take your word for it that you've never "stayed" in Canada, and
(b) CIC does name-based record checks for all applicants, and apparently your name was matched to a criminal record. So now your fingerprints are required to determine whether or not it was you.

Thanks Jes...In RCMP request email from CIC they have mentioned that I should submit this doc within 60 days..if RCMP takes that long then i may not able to meet their time criteria..
may be i should drop an email to them?

Folks, I have recd my GCMS notes and a bit confused with the RCMP fingerprints status under Criminality

ACTIVITY 1

UCI : xxxx-xxxx
Name : abc
Sub-Activity : RCMP Screening
Field Name : Status
New Value : Fingerprints required
Updated Date : 2013/02/17

ACTIVITY 3

UCI : xxxx-xxxx
Name : abc
Sub-Activity : RCMP Screening
Field Name : Status
New Value : Submitted
Updated Date : 2013/02/17

What does this imply ? Is RCMP Fingerprint screening required or not ? Anyone with the same experience ?

Yes. After you submit your application to the RCMP, email the Visa Office and inform them of the date that you mailed it to the RCMP, that the estimated processing time is up to 18 weeks. (They will know this). Definitely do not miss the deadline without some kind of response to CIC.

If you are living outside Canada, you can use the following agency in Canada for obtaining RCMP report in a few weeks (3 to 4 weeks) instead of waiting 18 weeks. You just need to obtain finger print from your nearest police station in the specified form of the WFS Inc, and send the finger print , payment, and application form to WFS Inc.

This was same in my notes as well, I think they write it if you send RCMP along with the application in first place.

bickyii,
I did not send any RCMP along with my application. I just ordered GCMS and found this note under Activity. Activity 1 - Fingerprints required. But Activity 3 reads 'Submitted'. I never submitted any RCMP clearance. So does this mean I will have to get RCMP done ? OR is it not required ?

Thanks lucky_CA for sharing this link..this is really of great help..Thanks again :)

O in that case its confusing, I thought I sent RCMP along with application that's why they put it here.
Any other member has same???

Oh yes. I do see in page 12 of the GCMS notes under CRIMINALITY : RCMP Screening. Status reads 'Fingerprints Required'.
Thanks for the response bickyii. I will just wait for one more confirmation from any of the other applicants in 2013 on what their GCMS notes show up. Will then go ahead and get my RCMP done.
Any more inputs guys ?

Just a guess > I have been asked to do RCMP fingerprint screening because I do not have a Family / Surname in my passport. It is blank. I have my full name in the 'Given Name' column. I am sure it might be a challenge doing a name match search for Criminality.

yeah that's right, confirm with other members as well..
& regarding name I had same thing on my passport. I wrote singh as last name, but They combined my first name with singh and put as last name in my application.
If you see the last pages of Notes, probably you find some information regarding name change as well..

I'm not sure if you get an answer from "Andy". You've posted your question in the old thred (check the dates).
