Part-time work

Hello,

I am new here, so apologies if this is the wrong place to post this question. I am applying to the *Quebec* Skilled Worker program. My question regards how work experience is quantified.

I have work experience as a university teaching assistant covering 4 years. However, even though the appointment is on a year by year basis, I only actually work during term time, effectively, 11 consecutive weeks in autumn and another 11 consecutive weeks in spring. My work hours are either 6 hours or 12 hours weekly depending on terms.

1 - Is there a minimum number of working hours per week that constitute part-time work? For example, is it considered part-time work if I work 6 hours a week?
2 - When I calculate the length of my work experience, should I say 4 years or 4 x 22 weeks?
3 - I have seen on this thread that it is compulsory to have at least 6 months of work experience, otherwise, the application is automatically rejected. However, I am having difficulty finding this information on the official website. Can anyone provide a reference to this fact?

I appreciate any help I can get.

Hi Yogie,

Thanks for your reply.

Please clarify that can I get 6 points if I join one year full time diploma in Food and beverage services under distance learning / regular method. As I am having experience in different segment and it is close to 12 years, will they allow me to get 6 extra points under training factor. This diploma is of one year and I am planning to file my case by July / August 2012 in the mean time I will take classes for this diploma and french along with my husband. So please recalculate our points and also suggest if it feasible to do in that way. I am having regular bachelors degree in Humanities and Masters from correspondence (both from Delhi university), right now I am 34 years and 9 months, I have close to twelve years of experience into clothing line and currently heading the department, English speaking 6.5 and Listening 7.5, No french, Have one child of 7 years, husband is having his own business and have done higher secondary, He has also completed Bachelors on fast track from IILM in 2011, English is excellent, No french as of now but we both have joined classes to pass A-1 level, His age is 37 years and 6 months, No relative in Quebec, No travel. sufficient funds.

Eagerly awaiting your reply and suggestion.

Best regards,
Sangeeta

Please clarify that can I get 6 points if I join one year full time diploma in Food and beverage services under distance learning / regular method. As I am having experience in different segment and it is close to 12 years- 8 points(Exp.), will they allow me to get 6 extra points under training factor.-Yes,if the Diploma is regular ,full time and issued by the competent official authorities in education in the country where he/she got that diploma. So if u complete this 1 year Diploma then u will get 6 points(Edu.)+ 6 points(A.O.T)=12 points and if we consider your present Bachelor Degree(here it should be noted that your Master Degree may not be consider for any points for Edu. bcs. u have completed it through correspondence, however it's just my speculation only and may not be consider it as a factual info.) then in this case u will get 6 points(Edu.)+ 0 point(A.O.T)=6 points. This diploma is of one year and I am planning to file my case by July / August 2012 in the mean time I will take classes for this diploma and french along with my husband. So please recalculate our points and also suggest if it feasible to do in that way. I am having regular bachelors degree in Humanities and Masters from correspondence (both from Delhi university), right now I am 34 years and 9 months- 14 points for Age(it's bcs. by the time u will apply in July 2012,u will be step into your 36 years of age ), I have close to twelve years of experience into clothing line and currently heading the department, English speaking 6.5 and Listening 7.5- 4 points, No french, Have one child of 7 years- 4 points, husband is having his own business and have done higher secondary, He has also completed Bachelors on fast track from IILM in 2011- if his bachelor degree is regular, full time then 2 points otherwise 1 point for his higher secondary degree , English is excellent, No french as of now but we both have joined classes to pass A-1 level, His age is 37 years and 6 months-2 points, No relative in Quebec, No travel. sufficient funds-1 points.

Hi folks,

Some enlightment into this question on the application form. I have a BA in Business and a PgD in Software Development, so I guess I would mark the "Other" box is this correct. Or? This confuses me "Diploma or training recognized as equivalent by a Québec regulatory body (except medical degree)".

Do I have to get my qualifications assessed my a regulatory body?

Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Colsy

8.1 Are any of the diplomas entered under Question 8 Québec diplomas or their equivalent and found among these choices:
Québec diploma
Canadian diploma
Diploma or training recognized as equivalent by a Québec regulatory body (except medical degree)
Foreign diploma covered by a mutual recognition agreement (ARM)

Hi forum members!

I have two questions involving IELTS:

1) Has anyone seen anything indicating that the Academic module is NOT acceptable for Quebec Skilled Worker? I am currently registered for the Academic because it was the next available and I kind of jumped into this when I found out the language requirement had changed.

2) This is kind of an odd question :-[ but when the test is administered, can I expect that all general instructions leading up to the test will be in English? I ask because I'm a native speaker of English from the US but I'm currently living in Seoul, and my Korean is just nonexistent. When I took the TEFAQ back in Chicago, I recall a mixture of instructions in French but also English from the testing center. This time, I had to have a co-worker help me register for the IELTS here in Seoul because a lot of the process was in Korean, and I'm nervous that I'm going to screw something up on the test date. I know there's not much I can do about it, but it might help ease my nerves about the test if I know that I'm not going to have to depend on other test-takers to tell me what's going on. Anyone with experience or assurances for me would be greatly appreciated. Honestly I hate tests and I thought it would finally be done when I took the TEFAQ. :(

Thanks for any help!

Hello Friends,

I am planning to apply for Quebec Immigration soon and got some strange questions in my mind. If I get the visa does that mean that I have to leave in Quebec or can leave any part of Canada?. Does that will affect the Citizenship processing if we come under Quebec category and living in some other part of Canada other than Quebec.

I know that I am thinking far ahead but would like to know all the possibilities before starting this.

Thanks,
NAX
