I think you should wait till you get your file no. But meanwhile you can get papers ready for your daughter i.e. birth certificate and passport. One of my friend had same situation and he did the same thing..

As per my knowledge he is Software/computer Engineer.
NOC : 2171/2172.

Hi,

I would need your help in getting the points calculated for Quebec Immigration. I'm particularly confused on the Area of Training.

Country:India
Education: Bachelor of Engineering(Electrical and Electronics Engineering)
Age:29
Occupation: Computer programmer
Work experience: 6+ years
French language skills: L:B1;S:A2
English language skills:L:8,S:8

I have a doubt after looking into the guide:http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/en/diverses/list-training.pdf

In the guide, I see Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering (Bach. - 4 years) in two places:

1. under section C below Québec Degrees. but the foot note mentions quebec degree or equivalent.so, should i get equivalent degree credential from any assessment agency? As I'm currently working in software field, can I use this equivalent degree credential?
2. under section E below Part I foreign degrees.

Also,Is there a cut off on area of training?

Will I be eligible to apply for Quebec Immigration based on the above?

Thanks

harit,

Is the degree equivalence really so important before CSQ? I am also an IT professional. I have consult with my consultant and he has suggested me it should be done after the CSQ will given. Because after getting CSQ you have to submit docs to federal and this equivalence needs only for your job purpose.

Equivalence is not asked at the CSQ stage or federal stage. But it is required to get jobs and join professional orders. Better to do it before coming to avoid waiting time before you get your first job.

are you sure that IT should make equivivalnce ??, what i know is that Com Engineers only needs that ..

I think it's better to apply to professional order directly if it doesn't require "Comparative evaluation for studies done outside Québec".
Since Comparative Evaluation is neither an equivalence to Quebec diploma nor a work permit it's probably not needed in most of the cases. Even on the Quebec Immigration website I read that it's better to figure out first if the one really needs an evaluation before applying for it.
In any case, the professional order reviews the applicant's credentials based on their own rules regardless of Comparative Evaluation. For example, I've recently applied to L'Ordre des Chimistes du Quebec and on their website it says that "Comparative evaluation for studies done outside Québec" is optional.
They evaluate foreign transcripts to check if an applicant has the minimum number of academic hours in certain core courses. To practice a profession of chemist an applicant has to possess a BS in chemistry or biochemistry that has core curriculum of study corresponding to a BS degree from Quebec. In addition the application fee to order is 420$ (includes the letter of eligibility, evaluation fees + processing fees) which is already a lot.
So, it's better not pay again for "Comparative evaluation for studies done outside Québec" ; Moreover if it's not required. :D

Of course I wouldn't generalize it for all the professions, but I believe that for science and engineering fields the requirements that professional orders establish are more less similar.

I just received my certificate de selection from Quebec and i am getting ready for the next steps. How long does it take to get the approval from the federal gov't? My visa office is Buffalo, NY. I always thought that it only takes 5-7 months but according to their website it may take 20-22 months. Can someone confirm?

Yes, their web is accurate.
Buffalo is overloaded with files because most foreign workers in US who cannot get green card apply to Canada. Be prepared for long wait.

Cograts, just 1 question, after submitting the certified true copies of your documents, where you invited for interview or you just got the CSQ?

Regards.

signalmaker,

I am a Computer Engineer and my profession is IT Manager in a local company in my country. And my degree is from a local university. So I think this credential equivalence must be needed . But my question is that it should be needed after CSQ or before CSQ?

Hello Cezar,

Have you made an interview or you got waiver ?
