apparently they ask alot of ppl resubmit documents that were already submitted to them. Why? I have no clue but I am guessing to delay the process abit. Its easy for them to order us to get same docs over and over guess they have no idea how difficult it is for us.
I was advised with these applications, (even with the new mortgage rules) the government is becoming more strict by the day, they want to make sure that there is consistency in your documents that you submit to verify it's validity. They use to be more lenient if you weren't meeting the income requirement, but now they absolutely need to see you can support yourself and your spouse. We are about to send in the additional information requested... I don't wish this process on my worst enemy it is so heartbreaking... My husband and I had to go through a lot just to get married and the waiting game is so frustrating. Sometimes I think I am losing my mind constantly thinking about being together and when it will happen!

According to the cic website information/applications/guides/5482Eguide.asp you only need to provide the income information if you are sponsoring another family member, not your spouse.
To sponsor your spouse you can be making $0 and still sponsor, but no social assistance or bankruptcy.

Hey SL_Chica :),

You are absolutely correct. However, you are still required to provide your information about your finances in one of the forms (I can't remember the application #) and they would want to make sure what you submitted earlier is in accordance with what you submit now. ( If you say you had a job/ or no job at that time - there should be consistency). As far as what I said about income verification, I do not think the officially made any changes but I was advised by an immigration specialist here they do need to understand/ see that you are capable of supporting who you are bringing and yourself. I do think it buys them more time but their process is approved by CIC here so there has to be some reasoning behind it.

Also, Like Lav_Canadian mentioned, it is hard for anyone but those of us in this circumstance to understand how difficult it is on us!

I am really not sure about this.
On the general checklist it has about supporting documents #18. But that is not relevant for sponsoring the spouse. That is for other family members. Keep in mind, that is a "General" check list for sponsor any family.

Hey, I remember I had completed some form, I will have to go back and look at my record of my docs to see which one I am referring to. I can take a look once I get home from work, and Chica, if you were approved as a sponsor already you don't have to worry! Perhaps I filled out something that is not required, not sure... I did have a consultant review my info he didn't mention anything!

Hey Hun,
I still didn't get a chance to check my documents, but through the site when you go to apply under Part 1 Sponsorship; there is the form IMM 5481 (Sponsorship Evaluation) , which discusses the finances. This form is to be completed by persons who want to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent children who have no dependent children of their own.

and then further :

It also does say:
a) Unemployment
Give details of your current situation and indicate how you support yourself.

Again, it's just off the form I am quoting it.

I mean, this whole financial thing has stumped us... because if the sponsership is going to take longer than we anticipated, my husband and I were thinking of moving somewhere else together or myself to temporarily reside in Sri Lanka. ( In which I'd have to leave my job here). The problem is, as someone mentioned before I think they can possibly take longer to process in this case and I don't know... it's all very confusing :(

That's another confusion. But Hope this will help you:
if you are a permanent resident (not a citizen), you must be physically reside in Canada to apply as a sponsor.
If you are a Citizen of Canada, then :
The sponsor must have either:
Physical residency in Canada; or
For Canadian citizens sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, or dependent child, a demonstrated intention to reside in Canada by the time the sponsored family member lands in Canada as a permanent resident.

Hey
My husband did his re-medical last Thursday and in link account it was updated to "passed" from "in process" by Monday.
