Hi there!

My PGWP is expiring in 10 months and I’m searching for a PR pathway that’s best for my case. Earlier, I was wondering PNP but I feel that the processing time of that is too long. I will be eligible for the current CEC cut off if I appear for my French exam. But I’ll need six more months to attain the score I need. What happens if I apply for my PR 4 months prior to the expiry of my work permit? Can I still stay in Canada as I wait for my PR or do I have to apply for bridging work permit to continue working? How long does bridging work permit take and while I’m waiting for my bridging work permit, can I stay in Canada?

Best,

Best,

After you apply for PR and you get AOR which is almost instant for EE CEC, you can apply for OWP and get a maintained status.

The processing time of the OWP is really long i guess. While I’m waiting for my PR and OWP, can I still stay in Canada and work?

The only caveat is that you can't leave Canada if your closed work permit expires and you still don't have an OWP, otherwise you will lose your maintained status.

Sounds good! My employer said they can help me with an LMIA-exempt work permit. Is this one tied to a PR application or can it be applied standalone? And who applies it? How long it takes?

Your employer has nothing to do with an OWP you get after you apply for PR.

Processing time can vary and will only start no sooner than you pass the completeness check of your PR application, can be 6 months and more.
