Hi,

I am worried that the police certificate I provided for Canada won't work. I went to the Toronto police station and got a certificate from there but I didn't have to provide my fingerprints or anything. Will that still work?

I don't understand what kind of police certificate you were trying to get. Were you asked to get a clearance for Canada? You are supposed to submit police certificates from every country that you've resided in for more than 6 months since turning 18 years of age, but normally you do not initially submit a clearance from Canada. CIC will run a "name check" on you when you have been staying in Canada and, if there is a hit on your name, they'll write to you with instructions on how to obtain an RCMP fingerprint clearance.

You can get fingerprints at local police stations for the purpose of getting clearances from other countries you've resided in besides Canada, but you have to order those clearances from the law enforcement agencies in those countries.

So, no, it doesn't sound like you got the right thing for immigration purposes.

Oh, since it said every country for more than six years, and since Ive been in canada for more than a year now, I though I would have to get one.

You only have to provide police clearances for Canada if they are specifically requested...I don't know why they don't make that more clear, it does create alot of confusion.
