Hello!! My wife and I are beginning to start the application for the spouse sponsorship and I'm a bit confused about the police certificate part. I have been in Canada for 8 months now and I'm a U.S citizen. The basic guide says I must submit police certificates for the country you currently live , if you lived there for 6 months or more and a police certificate for the country where you have spent most of your life since the age of 18. Does this mean I have to get two police certificates, one for Canada and one for the U.S? If so, How do I get one from Canada as a U.S citizen? Thank you in advance!

Yes you need a Canadian once and a us one. Be sure to get the right type as if they are anything like my home there is more then one type.

Here is the list on the cic website that will give you detailed info with the pull down country selector.

When i clicked Canada it says this:
Do I need to provide a police certificate with my application for permanent residence? No

Name of document to get: Criminal record check

If you are not a citizen of Canada:
If you live in Canada:
We will tell you if you need a Canadian criminal record check while your application is being processed. If we ask you to complete a criminal record check, visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for instructions.

I am still so confused If i need a Canadian one or not :(

Just order the usa one for now if they want the Canadian one later it looks like they will ask. Everyone else that has asked have been in a 3rd country but I assumed the rules were the same with Canada. But clearly that's not the case
