The minimum wage jobs in Canada still pay better than most third world countries like India, Philippines, etc.

People who are taking advantage or gaming the system saw an opportunity and took it, can you blame them? IRCC is overwhelmed and doesn't have the resources to maintain integrity of the immigration system. Govt. doesn't care. Result is rampant fraud.

Even after the post-dated increase in Ontario (which happened on Oct 1) it's still not enough, as widely reported in the news. (E.g. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-minimum-wage-increase-2025-1.7630339 or https://employmenthero.com/en-ca/news/ontario-raises-minimum-wage-october-2025/)

Note though, that according to https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti...make-26-an-hour-to-cover-living-costs-report/ that's assuming a 40 hour work week. Unfortunately I think I have an idea what must be happening here. Some folks must have managed to line up multiple min wage gigs and are working beyond 40 hours a week, perhaps often to an unhealthy extent. I don't know whether to call them lucky or unlucky.
